Please don't give in and put advertising on the jersey's. The Lakers name is the one only worthy of being on there. Let the other lesser franchises whore themselves out to the highest bidder. It would put the Lakers above the other franchises like they are, a visual representation of why they're a set above. There are the legendary Lakers vs walking billboards for Buffalo Wild Wings. It should mean something special to have your name on that shirt. Just because it's available doesn't mean you should use it. Just like we won't be like the Clippers and bring some stupid mascot to run around, we shouldn't give in and put advertising on the jerseys.
How great would it be to see the Lakers as the only holdout to the way things were before? No StubHub, no DraftKings, no Coca-Cola... just Los Angeles Lakers. I think it would be worth the loss of advertising revenue in prestige alone.
Only Lakers on the Lakers jersey. Keep the Lakers pure.

Since I get none of the revenue, I agree with you in theory. That said, the Lakers will get premium amounts in comparison to the average franchise due to exposure, and within 2 years it will seem as normal as knee length basketball shorts. Simply can't put the genie back in the bottle.
Seriously, let's just hope that the Lakers get a mountain of money from putting a good, reputable, winning brand on their jersey. It would be good to see a local company like Disney on there, although I think that's unlikely. It always amuses me to see the companies that get their names on soccer jerseys - online betting sites and the like.
Lakers make profits every single year. The organization doesn't need *more* ads. We play on STAPLES Center. We have the Jack in the Box Halftime Report. TV commercials every time the game stops.
Sorry folks. There are a few posters here would then claim Kobe was still holding the franchise "hostage." _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
I swear I heard Adam Silver say it was up to the teams if they want to take advantage of the advertising. The league will just be allowing it.
Anyone else hear this from somewhere? Or am I just a crazy person?
I heard that too. Hopefully LC will chime in.
And great thread OP.
I too would hope the Lakers would hold out and refuse to have advertising on their jerseys. If there's a good area for them to be old fashioned in, it's this
There's already corporate advertising on the jerseys tho. You think Adidas or Nike make jerseys for the league if they can't put their emblem at the top?
I think it will be weird at first but eventually we'll adjust and accept. _________________ Author of James Harden and the Strip Club

Could the Lakers choose to put a Dr. Buss logo...and have a non-Laker company "pay" the Lakers $1 to do so? _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

Totally different situations.
Really depends on the size of the logo advertising. It's possible Adidas would want to make their logo larger with the new advertising. Akin to the larger Nike emblems on soccer jerseys. _________________ Author of James Harden and the Strip Club
