Small ball won’t eliminate big men, but it might eliminate our old ideas of positions.

Current Dream would probably get his career averages even now against this current crop of C's.

Actually makes me think of how much better Magic could have been in todays game. He could have really played all positions.

Great read by the Dream. Love that guy. Awesome to hear an old schooler that doesn't reflexively get defensive about the changing game and instead admires it.

Great article. This is an excellent explanation of why the elite big men quit playing the traditional center role.

It's nauseating listening to all the cliche and catch phrases about this game. People need to realize this, THE GAME ADJUSTS TO THE PLAYERS, not the other way around. If Olajuwon, Shaq, David Robinson, Kareem, Ewing, Duncan.. are all 25 yrs old and Curry is also 25 yrs old and you place them on a draft board, the only Center a team might pass up on and draft Curry instead would be Ewing, but then that's also not certain cause a 25 yr old Ewing was pretty damn dominant. The league would then turn back into a BIG MAN's game. Life is cyclical. I believe 100% there will be a time where we will see hall of fame type big men again in the NBA.

The league is cyclical, but it's a bit simplistic to think that means that we will bounce back and forth between the current era and the way the game was played 20 years ago.

All the centers you mention are very different in terms of size and athleticism. Some of their games would have been different in the past if the game had been different. So, sure, they would go high in the draft because Robinson, Hakeem and a lot of the others would be great fits for the current era.

I don't see a return to post-up center dominance anytime soon unless the rules of the game change or someone imagines a way to make the 3-pointer less valuable.

The most skilled big men coming up will develop skills based on how they see the NBA game being played. when Kareem was coming up, big men really didn't shoot jumpers. If he was coming up today, he would develop that skill more.
