PostPosted: Tue May 17, 2016 5:19 pm    Post subject: Here's how the Lakers' picks work for 2017-19

Now that the Lakers have the #2 pick in 2016:

If the Lakers land one of the top 3 picks in 2017, then the picks go LA, PHILLY, LA in 2017-19, respectively, with Orlando getting LA's 2nd rounders in 2017 and 2018.

If the Lakers get the 4th pick or later in 2017, then the picks go PHILLY, LA, ORLANDO for 2017-19, respectively.

So the next three years, including whether LA gives up one first rounder or two, all hinges on the 2017 lottery. If the Lakers are IN the lottery, and their ping pong balls come up so they get one of the first three picks, then they keep two first rounders.

May the basketball God's be with the Lakers in 2017!

Thanks Larry! Haven't seen you in quite a while.

I'm hopeful that even if we are in the lottery next year, that we still do well enough that it doesn't matter as much.

Also, man, that Dwight trade was a robbery despite how things went down. Traded away Bynum right before he broke down a final time and only had to give a distant 1st for Dwight. Sure it didn't work out, but that was a hell of a trade

Unfortunately if the Lakers happen to be in the lottery next year it means that they suck. I'm hoping this tanking crap goes away however a lot will have to do with what happens this summer with the draft and free agency.

That was nothing compare to the Nash trade

Good illustration of why it is important to bring in solid veteran help the next couple of off seasons. We will likely lose 2 of our next 3 first round picks.

Well seeing how young this team is, chances are they will be back in the lottery unless something radical happens in free agency over the summer. We have lots of young players with no veteran superstars or all stars on the roster.

One can only hope 2017 and 2019 are low picks. Especially 2019.

Yeah that's what I'm saying this summer is critical as far as bringing in some real talent and start getting out of this quick sand. A lot of people here are living a dream thinking a bunch of young players will make a difference in the standing. There's going to be a lot of disappointed folks that don't understand what talent is all about. That's why Mitch is going to be hitting those phone calls for possible trades.

Please: No more lottery! Let's be done with high 1st rounders for 20 years...like the good ol' days.

I wasn't being sarcastic, the Dwight trade was extremely good value and we would have probably been worse off had we kept Bynum.

We've been doing this for the last 3 years, and this year has to be the year when there's some movement. There are no excuses, the money is there, and Kobe is out. Let's see what Jimbo Mitch and Luke can attract if they can't do it, it's time to clean out that FO.

we are likely to lose our pick next year then, probably in like the 5 to 10 range.

Lakers probably would bring in FAs to get some wins, but not good enough for playoffs.

I'm actually very serious about that! play all the youngins and let them learn, sub in garbage players to keep the wins down. You cant get enough talent to compete against the elite teams now.

Exactly. Bynum on a max contract...played zero minutes for the 76ers. Even a 1 year rental of deal was a steal. Dwight helped us make the play-offs one last time.

We gave up nothing so far in that trade, except getting sixers to pay Bynum....not even a 2nd rounder. Hope we don't give up the 2019 first rounder either.

Maybe the best case is show strong improvement in the competitive west and just miss the playoff and then get super lucky.

Thanks Larry!

I'm so glad we got to keep our past 3 picks.
This way, we get the "drafting talent" part in the rebuild out of the way and continue to build our team through free agency by adding vets or trading for superstars.
