Lol, I saw this thread title first when I logged on and thought it meant we lost our pick and Larry was going over our future options. Then I saw the actual results. Hell yes!

No need. They do a good job of doing that themselves.

Unfortunately if the Lakers happen to be in the lottery next year it means that they suck. I'm hoping this tanking crap goes away however a lot will have to do with what happens this summer with the draft and free agency.

Well seeing how young this team is, chances are they will be back in the lottery unless something radical happens in free agency over the summer. We have lots of young players with no veteran superstars or all stars on the roster.

Yeah that's what I'm saying this summer is critical as far as bringing in some real talent and start getting out of this quick sand. A lot of people here are living a dream thinking a bunch of young players will make a difference in the standing. There's going to be a lot of disappointed folks that don't understand what talent is all about. That's why Mitch is going to be hitting those phone calls for possible trades.

I don't think anyone thinks the #2 pick makes us a contemder but it's a good start. And it will make free agents more inclined to Come here

I would rather make the playoffs next year and render lottery day completely moot for us, even if it eliminates any chance that we keep the 2017 (and therefore an extra 1st round pick). It's also scary that our 2019 is completely unprotected.

With Simmons or Ingram + veteran FA, it's highly unlikely we'll land the top 3 picks next year.

I hope we're just out of the playoffs next year and still get a top 3 pick.

Nothing scary about losing an unprotected #30 in 2019

I'm actually very serious about that! play all the youngins and let them learn, sub in garbage players to keep the wins down. You cant get enough talent to compete against the elite teams now.

Maybe the best case is show strong improvement in the competitive west and just miss the playoff and then get super lucky.

Unless we get Durant this summer--which is now even more unlikely than it already was IMO--I think I agree with this. We aren't winning a chip next year without Durant, so the best-case scenario might be looking really competitive (say, around .500), just missing the playoffs, being at the back-end of the lottery, but getting super lucky and keeping the pick. That gives us another premium asset AND means that the picks we convey to Orlando become 2nd-rounders. I'm willing to sacrifice a low-end playoff spot next season (which would be the best-case scenario without Durant IMO) for that outcome.

not happening next year no way. The absolute best case realistic scenario for next year is that we are first round playoff fodder. I rather lose out again and get a top 3 pick in 2017 than be a so-so team with still no chance at winning it all.

I always thought it was important to keep this pick as the Lakers will get better over the next two years regardless.

If the team gets a top 3 pick next year that's almost a worst case scenario (worse would be losing the pick obviously). It means the team made no progress and is no closer to a title than it is today. It can also mean that Ingram is a bust or underperformed or got injured, could mean the other young guys made little progress or even took a step back, could mean injuries killed the team, could mean Walton can't coach, etc. No thanks.

I'd rather see a so-so team. In fact it's not even close. Give me a 41-41 season over another top 3 pick. That would mean our team gets so much better that we almost couldn't recognize it. 41 wins also would improve the trade value of the players on the team. And once a team gets to 41 wins, the team is much closer to being able to achieve 50 win seasons and more.
