I wouldn't be surprised if Team USA gets upset. |

I've seen it viewed both way.
Some people consider it a Duncan personal failure and like to mock him for only having a bronze.
Some consider Duncan a victim of a shoddy system that put together a bad team around him and didn't have practices.
You'll have no end of opinions on this -- some believe Duncan was exposed; some believe he hated the rules in place in 2004 (which were revised significantly for the next Olympics); some believe he himself played well, but was surrounded by a bad team of young players after other stars declined to take part; some feel he was the leader of the team and should take full blame for the disaster.
After the debacle, there was so much mea culpa-ing, and the whole system was changed so much, that it was conceded that things were bad from A to Z, so you'll never get uniform opinion on how much blame Duncan personally deserves. |
Duncan couldn't carry. If Kobe was able to play with that team they would have won gold. |
You never know. The big problem was lack of perimeter defense and 3-point shooting, and Kobe probably wouldn't have gotten on his teammates more than Duncan.
They could have used Kobe, Nash, Kidd, and Artest. But that's easy to see in hindsight, which is why they changed stuff up so much the next time around. |
Nash is Canadian. |

Upset by who?
The teams in this tournament are not as strong as in years past. Also the big problem for Team USA was chemistry, but since they fixed that problem by selecting better complementary players in the selection process not to mention taking the pre-Olympic games more seriously they have been on a roll |

Parker, Batum and Diaw have all lost a step, and Gober is still learning. Australia has Mills, who should be a starting PG for some NBA teams, Bogut, and other good role players like Ingles and Anderson. And that prick Dellavadova. _________________ “Properly read, the bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”

I'd be really shocked. Even France and Spain are much worse than us. Team USA hasn't lost in 10 years and has won 68 games in a row. Any loss would be very shocking. |

When butler, George and Jordan are out there the USA dominates defensively. When cousins, Irving and Durant are out there not so much |

But Jordan is so limited offensively. The Chinese can't stop Cousins.
Klay is having a horrible game so far. _________________ “Properly read, the bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”

I'd rather see college and high school players play for the USA team. These games aren't even remotely competitive. |

College players don't stay nearly as long as they used to and they would be facing several teams with NBA players. I wouldn't want to see that. I like seeing our team destroy everybody. |

No mercy. The other teams have pros on their squad. Also other nations have sports which they dominate you don't see them put lesser players so the rest of the world can have a chance. |

Guess that upset didn't quite happen. I missed the game but I'm also not super interested yet. I'm more interested to see them play some actual opponents. |

Or do a u23 format like they do for soccer.
With +3 guys over 23 on the team. |

Why?
The U-23 format in the Olympics is the reason why men's soccer is basically irrelevant.....
It wouldn't matter considering the World Cup is basically THE worldwide tournament for nations in the world of soccer.
There is no such World Cup of basketball tournament, although the NBA and the owners are trying to get one started.
Not to mention I don't see how changing it to a U-23 tournament would allow the rest of the world to catch up....Basketball is in the USA is one of the sports where we are far above everyone else in the world as a whole.
The few times where the USA lost in basketball was because they sent an inferior team of college players to play against the professionals from the world. I'm sure they learned that lesson not to do it ever again. |

What about the FIBA Basketball World Cup? That has been around for several decades. In the US the Olympics get more attention but that may not be the case in other countries. |

Watching the Mexico vs Fiji soccer game on Telemundo right now, there is nobody in the stands....this is what would happen if basketball went to U-23, the interest would plummet. |

Huertas in starting backcourt with Barbosa for Brazil, going up against Lithuania. Just made a layup. _________________ “Properly read, the bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”
