If this team has any sense of hope or urgency to play in post season this year, tonight's game against Houston is almost a MUST WIN. I like to judge our situation/ranking by looking at losses. You cant change losses. Right now were in pretty decent shape. Theirs still alot hope for a playoff spot. The playoffs is ours to lose right now.

I think 44 wins are gonna do for a playoff spot. May be even lesser(42 wins??) considering the level of compeition coming from those bottom feeding teams.

Only teams i see somewhat a threat for those last 2 spots:

NO: 24-23 (20-15 to get 44 wins)
Lakers: 24-24 (20-14 to get 44 wins)
Utah: 24-25 (20-13 to get 44 wins)
GoldenState: 22-25 (22-13 to get 44 wins)
Sacramento: 21-27 (23-11 to get 44 wins)
Houston: 19-29 (25-9 to get 44 wins)

Just looking at those records, gives us alot of hope. Rockets and Kings are rolling right now but they have alot work ahead of them. We have plenty of games against them. If we can just take care of buisness against them (which is why tonight is important), they shouldnt be a problem. Warriors, Jazz, and NO are just as streaky as us. GS is just coming off a 6 game losing streak, most of it at home. When those teams win, they can get on a roll, when they lose, they can lose in bunches, which is why I feel we have a great chance of making it.

I feel with a healthy team we can compete and beat almost any team in the NBA. I assume Odom and Mihm will be near 100% after ASB. Mckie and Turiaf should be good to go as well. We almost beat a really hot Mavs team just by having Odom back into the lineup...who knows what would of been if we had Mihm playing and healthy?

And most importantly we have tons of home games coming up. 22 of our next 35 games are at home. thats a HUGE advantage. If we take care of our home record, then well be more than fine.

So keep your heads up Laker fans, barring any more injuries to our team, their still lots to be optimistic about this season.

After the Houston game, the Lakers will have 21 home games versus 12 road games left. We're definitely going to the playoffs.

It's not being overly optimisitic. Your view is pretty reasonable remember what happened the last time they lost 5 straight this year, they started winning again I think they went 7-3 their next 10. Besides according to the standings they are still projected to make the playoffs.

As long as the team (particularly Kobe) remains healthy, I remain confident that we'll make the playoffs. Kobe has missed about 15 games or so the past couple of seasons. He may escape that trend this season, as he drives sparingly.

LAKER REPORT
January 23, 2006
Post Production Isn't to Jackson's Liking
By Mike Bresnahan, Times Staff Write

Laker guard Aaron McKie is still a couple of weeks from returning from a quadriceps tendon injury, Jackson said. McKie recently ran with other players during practice without being cleared by trainers, who promptly removed him from the court.

"We're looking at perhaps realistically some time in February," Jackson said.

Ok so its sometime in feb now

Don't get your hopes up just cause we won over Houston.
Last time I checked, the Lakers are on the same situation last year

Last Season 2004-2005
Feb 13 "25-24"

Lakers struggled in the road with disaster after that
and end up with only getting 9 wins to get to "34-48"

I can't wait for us to be the 3rd team in history to win a first round series as the 8th seed over the 1 seed.

You hear that Dallas?

I think this next game vs. Memphis is more of a MUST WIN because they are so close to us in the standings. Houston wasn't even a threat.

I ignored this thread for 2 or 3 days. I will give you props on your optimism and jump on the bandwagon.

It may be ugly, but we'll do it.
