so let me understand this .... Lebron who just won a title for Cleveland after 50 years and is adored and loved in the city he grew up in will leave again, for a 2nd time to come to the Lakers and try to rebuild a 17 win team while being once again criticized and hated by most national media and fans and scrutinized and compared to every Laker great before him by the LA media..... Makes a lot of sense to me !

LeBron James to return to Cavs to defend title in 2016-17

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2016/06/lebron_james_to_return_to_cavs.html

Quote:
"I love it here. I love being here. I love my teammates," James told cleveland.com, moments before he boarded a float at The Q for the Cavs' championship parade through downtown Cleveland. "Obviously my agent will take care of all the logistical things but, I'm happy. I've got no plans to go nowhere at this point."

Yep, that about covers it. So clearly this is going to happen.

Well, that's a double negative, which means he's obviously leaving.

We don't need to have celebrities , or media people there. Just focus on basketball. Period.

I agree that the focus should be predominantly on basketball but despite whatever these guys say, the component of lifestyle and outside opportunities. Having AEG or __________ would be a wise move so long as it's not all we have to ofer.

Same stupid ish when people wanted Dwight Howard. I don't see why any of you would want Lebron wearing a Lakers jersey. Let that cat do what he does far far far away from us.

So, with the pipe dream finally being laid to rest, can we return to more realistic ideas and also lock this thread? Especially after previous interviews, articles, etc. etc. etc. all indicated he would never leave the Cavs and all this traction started from SAS seeking attention?

The only confirmation needed was when Lebron was holding the Larry O'brien trophy.

Good for Cleveland. Glad it wasn't a long drawn out thing. Never made sense that he would leave a great team in his hometown. It's even not as if the team was declining like with with Wade in Miami. Kyrie isn't in his prime yet and he already roasted the unanimous MVP.

Lebron is thinking post career. Where has better business opportunities after he retires? Boone land or a state that is one of the worlds biggest economy? Nike would make a push for him to come to LA, their 1b deal is worth more in a bigger market.

Ending his career in LA would offer more financially post nba. Also for his ego imagine rejuvenating LA.

Still a small chance but not impossible.

Lebron wants his post-NBA career to be in entertainment, the Lakers have their own cable TV station.

It's 2016. Thanks to the Internet and the fact that Film/TV production has spread out across the country, one does not even remotely need to be in an LA to have any endorsement or commercial celebrity power. Gone are the days someone needs to be in New York or LA to maximize their exposure.

As for the Lakers cable channel, it's incredibly insignificant as far as reach and clout. It may was well be cable access in regards to it's meaning to an major sports icon.

While it's true actual film/TV production can be done anywhere, most production headquarters and the decisions on what gets made is still done in LA and NY. LeBron just doesn't want to be the talent (for that, he can live anywhere), but he also wants to be a movie mogul. He will be spending a lot of time in LA for this. Why do you think he spent $20 million on a mansion there? He might as well be playing there too.

I think Lebron will eventually live in LA full time. Whether he does it before or after his basketball career is over is still up in the air.

I'm he sure he may well end up living here in LA one day. But purchasing a home here indicates nothing more than he plans to spend some time here. As I said earlier, several NBA players have purchased homes in LA in the past for various reasons NOT involving moving to LA permanently or to play for the Lakers.

As fas becoming a "mogul" in the entertainment industry to the point that his presence in LA would be required, that's a long road to travel, and even if he ever did find himself in such a position, it would have to be when he wasn't also trying to juggle practice and traveling with a team.

Anyway, the point is not whether he may end up living here one day but whether having a house here or a desire to work in the entertainment industry indicate an intent to come to the Lakers. The answer is they don't - at least not in any definitive fashion. Especially when weighed against other factors that would indicate it's not likely.

Well if not in any definitive fashion then I guess it is a done deal. The Master has spoken.

hope Durant says he's stays too so the Lakers don't waste their time on him and concentrate on going after young free agents that they could actually get.

This is not like the past few years. They don't need to wait for Durant to make his decision.

Knowing that he's a different cat, why do you think we have a shot at him? If Lebron ain't coming to the Lakers, there is no reason for him to. What other free agents can we sign, what team can we field with him that would make it a stronger team than if he were to join Steph and Klay?
