Half those guys didnt play for the Lakers. |
By my count that's 6/11, so you're right it's 54.54%. |
My bad! Didn't read the thread title fully |
I read the title fully. I chose to list my top 11 anyway, since it was bound to come up sooner or later _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

Now you can say he deserves the top 10.
Lebron, despite the helpers, played better than Curry.
It was unfortunate for warriors to lose Green in game 5.
But maybe it was a lesson for the cocky.

Its flawed to put guys you have never seen play in real time on your list such as Wilt or MIkan. I will put the players I seen in my lifetime of watching the NBA and not on youtube highlights from the 60's.
1. Jordan
2. Magic
3. Bird
4. Shaq
5. Kareem
6. Lebron
7. Kobe
8. Duncan
9. Hakeem
10. Barkley |

I will never understand how anyone who truly understands the game of basketball can even think of putting James among the first tier all-time greats (first tier meaning the top 10 players in this case).
Apart from not being a natural Basketball player with sound fundamentals, the man has merely won 3 out of 7 finals. For two of the titles he even had to collusively form a "Super Team" to get there, something that no other great has done. Even the Boston team of 2008+ was put together via (real) trades (although one could argue that there was also some collusion in play among former Celtics).
The title comparison alone makes it obvious with regard to Laker greats:
Kobe 5 of 7
Shaq 4 of 6
Magic 5 of 9 (cut short due to HIV)
Kareem 6 of 9 (if I'm not mistaken)
Case closed. |

Just gonna do all time ranking, cause exclusively Laker career is messy, when it comes to Kareem, especially:
1) MJ
2) Kareem
3) Lebron
4) Magic
5) Bird
6) Russell
7) Wilt
8) Kobe
9) Duncan
10) Shaq
11) Hakeem |

Dude after this series you have to put LeBron in the first tier, the man carried his team back from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals against a 73-9 Warriors team. He went absolutely bonkers these past 3 games and had one of the greatest Finals performances ever. If you actually knew the game of basketball then you would know why LeBron is special, he does everything good like every facet of the game of basketball he does at an elite level save for jump shooting but even then he takes smart shots and his jumper was on in this series and when he was in Miami. Looking at his entire career after tonight he is absolutely one of the GOATs and to top it off his career isn't even finished. _________________ Lake Show |

Too early for me to give him a definitive standing other than saying he's cemented top-10 all-time status. Arguing top-5 is within the realm of possibility, too. |

Too early for him to pass Kobe... at this point:
Magic
Kareem
Kobe
Lebron
If he gets to 5 rings...
Magic
Lebron
Kareem

Probably.
I just decided to do a 1st/2nd team by "positions." In this instance, who would fill the "guard" slot with Kobe? _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I don't usually agree with Charles...and with Magic after Oscar I still don't but agree on Lebron Kobe and Duncan.
Lebron is better to me than all Lakers but Kareem, Magic and Kobe. Better than Shaq IMO all things considered.
GOAT list mine:
KAJ
MJ
Next tier, VERY slightly below
Russell
Wilt
Next tier, solidly below, in order:
Magic
Kobe
Lebron (I give Lebron edge over Tim with 5 rings bc Tim had zero turmoil, zero lack of great teammates, zero coaching or FO office issues to overcome. Lebron had big burdens everywhere, some self-imposed, true, like Kobe did in CO, but nonetheless others that he didn't)
Duncan
Bird
Shaq
Oscar
I think there is a solid gap between Kobe and Lebron myself, but narrowed definitely with this series. Down 3-1. Wow. Leadership. Wow.
As said before, Shaq could have been there with KAJ and MJ, but commitment not quite ideal. Still plenty great though and big fun. |

His all time ranking has risen much higher from this championship - As objective fans, we can appreciate this and give him the credit and respect he deserves, whether we like him or not. We're going to have to come to terms with it, and accept that he will, or has already, surpassed many of our players. Kobe, Shaq, Wilt, Kareem, Magic, etc.
I would put him ahead of Shaq and Wilt. I'm sure many would put him ahead of Magic and Kobe...I'm not sure about that yet. He definitely is nowhere near Kareem. Not sure what you guys think. |
There have been lots of conversations about his GOAT standing, so there isn't anything new about comparing how he stands against the great Lakers. Whether you talk about the top 10 of all time (or just make it about him vs. the Lakers guy), it's the same discussion.
My guess is most people right now would put him behind Kareem and Magic, and ahead of Wilt, Shaq and Kobe.
But it's hard to say because it's difficult to rank guys in their middle of their career, especially after a great accomplishment. He's spiking now and might come down. |
