*The Sit-Down: Jeanie Buss

Quote:
The Lakers’ top exec on how Magic influenced the farewell to Kobe, why fiance Phil Jackson isn’t coming back to the organization, and how brother Jim can now put his vision for the team on the court.

Jeanie is sounding better in press every interview, front office now seems unified and that is great for the Lakers

Good. That's what we want from everyone not named Mitch.

Byron Scott was everything that was everything that was wrong with the Lakers, once he was removed all has been forgiven.

Not at all, We have to strike big this summer because as a team we are flat out garbage, Removing Scott was essential but they still need to do alot more to turn this ship around

It wasn't just Byron Scott. It was the lack of direction and vision the team and FO had with him. I'm guessing the impetus for his hire was 95% Kobe and 5% winning a championship. They were trying to close Kobe's chapter but he just rank out of ink.

I think it's fairly clear that Luke will try to establish a culture from the get-go and his tenure will be a more player-centric process. He won't have complete say in who the Lakers sign in FA, but I'm certain they'll go for the players that fit his vision. I'm looking forward to it.

People think that Phil is going to come back here to L.A. and it’s not true. He’s signed a five-year agreement. He is happy where he is.

I guess we have 3-4 more years until the Phil Jackson to LA rumors resurface. Enjoy it while you can.

Management diffinitiely looks more self-entitled then they did the last couple of years, maybe they realize they need to change there ways if they don't want to be looked upon as a bad family group.

The Busse's have taken some hard blows for the past coaching decisions and failed attempts at signing the top big free agents. They seem to have realized the only way to make it ok is to work together and stop throwing each other under the bus and finger pointing through the media.... mainly Jeannie.

I really have no problem with how they are running the Lakers like most in here. At the end of the day, you need players to win. Lakers had Phil and Kobe from 2005-2007 and they won zero rings. They get Pau and suddenly they become great again. The Cavs have a whiney crybaby owner and they just won a ring. Ifthe Lakers win a ring 3 or 5 years from now, will Jeannie and her brother suddenly become great owners.

Even though Phil isn't here, his "son" is!

Fans only remember & care about "What have you done for me lately" so the FO will surely be viewed in a more positive light if and when the rings come.

If that's true then technically she is the "head of the snake."

No doubt! It's time for the FO to put up or shut up.

This summer and the next will be pivotal in determining the direction of this franchise.

He knows his stuff. I've been impressed with both Joey and Jesse. Along with Ryan West, I think they will do a great job of carrying the organization forward.

Adding talent is fine, but defining the culture is far more important. Talent wholeheartedly fails when there is none (see Houston and Sacramento). The addition of Luke will turn out to be the best move they've made in some time. I can't see them topping that unless Durant magically comes here.

Excerpt from LA Times (6/21/16):
Quote:
coaching experience taught Walton to put an “emphasis on the culture,” he said, and plans to keep everyone accountable on the Lakers.
