You should check out The Lavender Hill Mob if you like old flicks at all.

Yep, I study film.. Thx I'll check it out.

Very cool Any particular time period or school you prefer?

I'm not particular about eras, I'll watch anything from a good director. Anything to aid in my screenwriting.

I honestly don't like Boston and you can include the Patriots.

Did not believe you were in a bad mood or BVH.

Just wanted to use the word Jovial

I really can't blame you at all.. Kyrie has been my favorite player in the league for a while so that's the main reason.

Much respect. The Ealing Studios wartime and immediate post-war output was incredibly innovative, but often timeless storytelling. Another underrated gem is Cavalcanti's Went the Day Well?, which is an odd, ahead of its time film in terms of structure, pacing, and content.

Is there a director or screenwriter you're really drawn to now?

Wow.. Thanks for the gems, much appreciated. David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, and Mr Spielberg for the most part. You studied as well, or are you something of a historian?

This is not the internet fight you're looking for.

I am in a jovial mood tonight. Can't recall ever using the word jovial. So to cheer everyone up

Toronto 113 Boston 101

Jayson Tatum 36 min. 16 pts 6-16 2-6 3pt 5 tov 5 pf -14 +/-

yes I did not list any stat he did reasonably well so as not to spoil the good vibes.

Tatum exploded against Philly and Cleveland. Both of those teams have/had terrible wing defense. He then struggled in pre-season against other teams, ignored since it was pre-season, and for the season opener got to feast on Philly again.

People talk about how big a deal it is that he "did it in the playoffs", but another way to look at is is that he got to play the same two teams that were a good matchup for him. Over the season, like there was last season, there are going to be just as many games like today as there were games against Philly, and that's going to put him in still impressive but familiar company.

For reference, check out the games BI had against Philly and Cleveland last year. If we got to play two seven game series' against Philly and Cleveland, BI would have beasted as well

Make no mistake, the kid is legit good... but the hype train is totally off the rails. The whole media storm going crazy with "JAYSON TATUM IS THE BEST PLAYER ON THE CELTICS" on a team that has Kyrie (bleep) Irving and Al Horford are you kidding me

We also forget to mention that he is a guy who is being benefited from Stevens, he knows how to put players in the best position to succeed, if he was on another team he might have been another athletic ISO player with nothing to rave about.

What I've learned from watching the last four seasons of tanking/rebuilding basketball is to be humble in the face of youth, because none of us really know where these young guys are going.

Man in the White Suit
Passport to Pimlico
Ladykillers
Kind Hearts and Coronets

also all worth a look fom Ealing. Also Alexander Mackendrick, one of the directors at the studio went on to lecture at CalArts for years. Highly recommend his book https://www.amazon.com/Film-making-Introduction-Craft-Director/dp/0571211259/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540025173&sr=8-1&keywords=mackendrick+of+filmmaking. Great down-to-earth insight into filmmaking.

edit: wait, we're in the BI thread? Though I stumbled into off topic...

Humble or is it just learning how to accept the consequences when the outcome is beyond our control? Youth + bad decisions = tanking.

It is in our nature as hardcore basketball loyalist to project a players future based on the past. This brings up points for debate that lead to interesting, entertaining and at times enlightening discussions that branch off in many directions.

My post was intended for entertainment more so than as a debatable talking point although there was a small msg to it. How my posts are construed is what I find interesting and in this case very much so.

Thanks again boss, I'll give them a look. I've been overlooking that particular book because of its publishing date. I'll give it a read though.

And yes.. back on topic before the reprimands come.

My apologies ..

In summary.

Hasn't demonstrated his J has improved.

Defensive awareness and activity has improved significantly.

FT% is probably going to increase.. maybe. =)

Those who were on the fence, are still on the fence. Those who are optimistic, are still optimistic. Those who are unimpressed are still unimpressed.

If he's going to be an allstar it's at least two years from now in my opinion.

It was the total opposite. The defense was good. Offense was bad.

This dude is a real piece of work based on the stories I've heard about him.

Also...I apologize for getting into it with you the other night.

Random thought: BI will never be Kawhi. I'm starting to wonder if we really could have had him for BI. Probably should have pulled the trigger.

Kawhi's hands and strength are what make him a modern day MJ.

Just a film nerd from a young age, took a few classes in college, and now that I'm not so young anymore, I look back and see that I've watched too many movies and not enough at the same time.

Speaking of the gifted Fincher, his career arc might be an apt analogy for Brandon's going from young wunderkind music video director to being tabbed to helm a beloved name franchise that suffered from studio interference. He bounced back with brilliant, but underrated genre work without getting his full due as an auteur until several years later. At least I hope Brandon has the basketball equivalent of Zodiac in his future.

BI is only 21, actually this is like his 2nd season.. his rookie season was with a team that had no direction and had motives to tank games. it’s not like Kawhi was anything special in his 1st few seasons and he was with a winning team.

Kawhi is a top five player in the NBA. He's a year in, year out DPOY and MVP candidate when healthy. That's rare talent and no young player should be expected to rise to that level.

I assume Magic and Pelinka think they can land Kawhi to play alongside Lebron and Ingram next summer, and my guess is that Popovich would've played hardball with the Lakers for as long as possible because 1) he wanted a more 'win now' veteran, which he got, and 2) he hates the Lakers.

One of the reasons I enjoy posting late at night. Less crowd , less conflict with the discussion leading in unexpected directions.
