I'm thinking that Zu will be able to increase his range to the NBA three next season. The question is how many of them do we want him taking. |

Only played 38 games at 16 minutes a game.
I guess one could say Embiid shouldn't have been a finalist for ROY since he only played 31 games. But he did play 25 minutes at 20 points a game with more impact.
IMO, no one who plays less than 70% of the season should be a finalist for any award. I would also say the same for first/second teams. But oh well. |

I guess, but along the same lines, Fred VanVleet averaged 8 minutes per game in 37 games and he got a vote. Maybe it's because of the competition at the center spot, relative to the wings, where you had Embiid as a shoe in? |

Sounds right.
Do you think he's gonna make the 7% body fat? |

I thought rookie teams didn't have any positional basis?
Wasn't the 2016 first team Booker, Porzingis, Okafor (lol), Towns, and Jokic? |

Lakersnation had a Q&A with the Lakers ex-trainer, Tim DiFrancesco. He's got cool Kobe & Metta stories, and these tidbits on our 2016 rookies:
Quote: | Q: I know that during at least one point while you were with the Lakers, you kept a session tracker for how much guys worked out with you ... who was at the top of your session tracker for the last season?
For the last season, it was Ivica Zubac and Brandon (Ingram) were neck and neck. |
Quote: | Q: On your website, the first thing that pops up is a photo of you and Brandon Ingram, and you just told me how hard of a worker he is along with Zubac. I’m just curious what it’s like to work with him because he seems like a guy that is incredibly committed to his craft and has a great work ethic.
First off, that couldn’t be more accurate and second of all, I was really thinking about the quiet confidence that he displays in everything that he does. I was able to see that in action shortly after we drafted him. There was a period of time where, as an organization it was decided that myself and Nina (Hsieh), the assistant trainer who is outstanding at what she does, would go to Kinston, North Carolina, where he was going to be for a little bit of time, before he got situated back in LA. He and his father were there to show me the gym he would have access to, and then I was going to try to make sure everything was all in line, before I had to fly back to L.A. and be with other players, so I wanted to get him through at least one workout.
Right off the bat, this kid showed me. I put a workout together, that I wanted to be realistic, but also challenging to see how he would handle it, and I don’t think he said three words during the workout, but the amazing part was just in his facial expressions, and his approach to every time I explained an exercise…What I mean is, I’ve had guys that are like, ‘That’s what we’re doing? or No way! And I’m like yeah, that’s just the warmup and they think it’s the whole workout, so there’s moments where you have guys that are new to the weight room and you have an eye roll here or whatever, and this kid (Ingram) was like, ‘What’s next, can we do more?’ This was where the body, the mannerisms, the stuff that I was getting from his body language, was all can we do more? He was really, really impressive to me, all year long. This kid, he’s going to be something really special to work with, because when somebody approaches it like that at 19, the possibilities are endless.
Then I got a chance to meet Ivica (Zubac) and this kid was like which wall do you want me to run through, and how many times, so those two guys really stand out to me as having an impressive level of maturity and understanding of work ethic for guys that are just barely 20, maybe. (*sidenote: Ingram is still 19!) |

I'm a fan of 2 way centers. Guys that are fine taking less than 10 shots. And enjoy setting screens, battling for rebounds, and swatting shots.
Some of Zu's stat lines were awesome his rookie year.
January 17th - 26 minutes, 11 shot attempts, 13 boards, 3 blocks, 1 steal
February 6th - 17 minutes, 9 shot attempts, 7 boards, 3 blocks, 1 steal
February 24th - 27 minutes, 9 shot attempts, 6 boards, 3 blocks
March 12th - 18 minutes, 5 shot attempts, 6 boards, 4 blocks
He's a big man who enjoys the dirty work. Like Deandre. Not a shot diva like Dwight.
In terms of development. I'd like to see him command space better before going for the rebound. He's kinda just getting by on his shear size. Which is fine as a starting point. But he could be a next-level rebounder with some technique.
I think his paint finishing will improve gradually. Top 5-10 Center in the league is possible. He's a two-way Center. Not alot of those around the league anymore. And the kid's only 20. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Agree. I think getting Brook Lopez is going to be a good thing for Zubac. Say what you want about Brook.. but he's a handful on offense. I like Brook as a mentor to Zubac more than I do Mosgov. |

Biggest concern with zubac is the direction the league is going. Even if he becomes very proficient offensively, there's a chance he just won't be more than a part time guy due to speed issues. _________________ “We must always take sides. I think Zubac has a chance to be MVP of the summer league this year. People sleep on him because 7 footers aren't "in style" anymore. But offensively, he is an outstanding fit for the modern NBA. |

okay let me hit a uturn. Zu doesn't look like he deserves a roster spot out there tonight. He looks fatter and slower than last year. |
