He's pretty much answered every call up to this point, when faced with a new challenge. If he has a good game tomorrow playing big minutes, I fully expect Zublockamania to blow up...
On a more serious note, is there any young center in the league you would take over Big Z, other than KAT and Embiid (I don't count the Brow as a center)?
Nikola Jokic, Rudy Gobert, Andre Drummond, Steven Adams, Jahlil Okafor, and Demarcus Cousins if 26 is still considered young

Adams nope and Okafor nope. I like Zubac's potential over both of them.
That shot alone just convinced me that I want him shooting the sky hook. I thought he missed a typical hook shot last night - maybe because he got caught in between the sky hook and his money regular hook shot. But damn, that shot over Mozgov was unguardable.
LOL..
I watched that shot last night on replay, and that's exactly what I'd said
it was 1/2 skyhook and 1/2 jump hook..
it was like he changed his mind on how he was shooting it in the middle of the shot
thank you! I was cursing Bill Burka. But now, I see that he could have an ungaurdable shot in the works..
I'd guess Zu was just a little amped up to be in the game, and was overly excited.
A couple of days ago I copied in a clip of Zu & Moz going against each other...
Zu is clearly working on his jump hook in one phase, and a skyhook in the other. Both shots look pretty good.
Like I said....last night? probably nerves _________________ LBJ + AD = More rings

I'd also ad Nurkic to that list.
Forgot about Cousins, but he is kind of on the older side and not exactly part of the "young" big man conversation anymore. So the only other guy I'd probably take is Drummond, though I hate big men who can't shoot FTs and have limited offensive games. Sadly, with all his athleticism and potential, he may not even be part of the best 5-man unit on his own team in this new pace and space era.
Nurkic and Jokic have defensive limitations and probably won't ever be able to cut it as anchors. I thought of them both when I asked the question, but much prefer Zubac's two-way potential.
I like Gobert and Adams, but will they ever give you anything on offense outside of hustle/garbage points?

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Working With Ivica Zubac On His Skyhook
Former Lakers’ center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar practiced with Zu this week and it is already paying dividends
Quote:
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the 2016 NBA Summer League was none other than GOAT, Ivica Zubac. Taken 32nd overall by the Lakers in the 2016 NBA Draft, expectations were relatively low from the start.
However, since then Zubac, aka Zu-Blocka, has caught the attention of General Manager Mitch Kupchak and has even drawn comparisons to fellow European center, Marc Gasol.
I like his potential as a player, got hopes up for him. But.....
That hook looks pretty pedestrian, far off of Kareem's, no real fluidity, no where near the lift, the arch is almost non existent, but lets call it a WIP...

2nd floor hook, still pretty good
Hey, gotta start somewhere. If Zu's skyhook is 1/10 as good as Kareem's it will still be good!

Yes I agree. WIP, plus 10% of good old Kareem is GOLD...
I have a good feeling about Zubac. I think in as early as a few years.. the Lakers may have a really, really good player on their hands. It's pretty ridiculous the Lakers were able to draft this guy where they did.

I'm going to tonights game about 1 hr before it starts. More than anyone else, I'm going to watch Zubac closely and record him shooting on video.
The thing I wonder now is, now that he briefly has shown he's not a liability against quick NBA players driving to the rim, what's the excuse for not projecting him in the rotation now? Because people make more $ than he does?

There's your answer. Until briefly becomes regularly the Lakers will play the development game with him. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Creeeeeper!
Just kidding. Looking forward to seeing the video.
Somebdy guide me through how to post it and I'll be glad to share.
where you sitting? I might see you there!
I'll probably get there 30 min before tip though
Opposite side of the players bench, 2nd row, middle. Look for the bald light skinned guy
Ok cool! I'm behind the basket (along the baseline) closest to the Lakers bench. I'll be a few rows back. I'm light skinned too! But I'll probably be wearing a hat

Love his D, love how he knows how to create space for his hook. Man, had the Lakers knew, would they have gone hard after Mozgov? I don't think he's better than Moz right now. We'll need to see him against NBA starters. But I don't care about salaries. You should just play your best players, and if Zubac is showing he's the better player in practice, then they should play him over Moz. It's really not an embarrassment or egg in the face if you think about it. What is Mitch going to do? Apologize for being a stud at drafting and striking gold at 32?
