I wasn't expecting Mitch to pick Zubac with the 32 pick, it was smart getting a big with this draft pick. Is Zubac coming to the NBA this year? _________________ Coach MWP. |

I had never heard of this guy before the Lakers took him but after watching a view videos and reading a few articles, it seems that he was the perfect choice. Lottery talent according to most and the only reason he dropped was because he wants to come play in the NBA immediately. I'm fine with that considering we don't have any better options and our coaching staff will be able to help develop him first hand.
Hard to tell how mobile he is from highlight videos against other Euros but he seems to be able to run the floor well. No hops, but when you are 7'1 with a 7'4 wingspan, who cares? Hes only 19 and should get more athletic as he grows up anyways. Very excited to see him as a pick and roll big with Russell in summer league and as a rim runner and protector. Hopefully he is able to help in spot minutes next year as he continues to develop but my initial reaction is another late draft steal from the great Mitch Kupchek. |

From what I read, he dropped out of the first round because he DOESNT want to be stashed in Europe. Considering the Lakers don't have many better options on the roster, I expect him to play on the Lakers next year. |

7'1 Center with touch and nice timing on his block shot attempts? Who's 19 and will benefit greatly from world class training and conditioning? And a Lakers' fan? And is able to hit his FTs at 85% clip?
Where do I sign? |

I'm especially interested in seeing how an NBA strength and conditioning program will change his body and ability to move on the floor. It did wonders for Marc Gasol who has similar measurables compared to Zubac. However, from what I've seen, Zubac seems to be a bit more athletic and appears to carry the weight better on his frame. |

I know, center who can hit free throws!! Praise the heavens!
It does not hurt that he owns an AB17 jersey.
I had not really read up on him prior to the draft because he was listed as the top Euro center prospect on most mocks. I figured he would be long gone.
Seems like he is not a big leaper, but you don't need to be with that size and length. The stress fracture in his foot in 2014 might have dropped his stock some and is concerning considering his size. _________________ R.I.P. Doc Buss |

I've been there. Bullet holes in all the buildings, graveyards everywhere. The people were very nice though. |
Adds credence to the old adage: "Nice place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there" |
Just went there a month ago. It was crazy to me to think that the place was totally destroyed during wars in the 1990s and being so young at the time I had very little understanding or recollection. Zubac was born just three years after the war ended and must have had a tough childhood.
The reconstructed Stari Most or "The Old Bridge" is incredibly picturesque and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the views look like they're straight out of a fairy tale. But the rest of the town does still bear the scars of war. It's a very interesting place with Bosnian Croats and Bosnian Muslims living on opposite sides of the river. The people are nice and they peacefully coexist now but you can still feel some tension under the surface. |

The Bucks shook up the draft early on by selecting Thon Maker at #10. That kind of threw everything out of the expected norm.
Zu may have been overlooked by some teams after that pick. I really thought this guy would be a late 1st rounder. Had no idea we would select him. Got to give the FO credit for scooping him up.
It will take time but he will develop into a serviceable big man. |

A lot of that had to do with the fact that he was projected to be taken much earlier than 32. |

Kevin Ding:
Quote: | The Lakers also hope they added a true big man to that young crew Thursday in 7'0" Croatian center Ivica Zubac, 19. The team saw him as a lottery talent and pegged him to go in the top 20 before landing him at No. 32. Kupchak even privately likened Zubac to Marc Gasol. |

Love the pick, I'm a little surprised we shied away from the four year seniors we usually target. He's super young along with Ingram. One thing's for sure, we better get some veteran presence on this squad next year to keep everyone in check. Nick Young does not count. |

It's not like Laker fans even knew who Larry Nance was last year either. |

Watch this thread not matter in a number of years because we passed on Felder who is WAY BETTER than Zubac. |

Felder would be redundant with Lou here. We needed to improve our front court and we did that. |

Could have traded Lou. Felder is a way better facilitator than Lue. Also more athletic. You get the guy who is going to be something in this league. Even if you double down on a position. It's rare a talent like this goes so under the radar. I understand the need for Zubac's value in that position. I really hope he will be good, but to me he is injury prone and a guy who won't even be with us 4/5 years from now. I hope I'm wrong. But it won't be soon before people are saying, "Who is this Kay Felder guy, and why didn't my team draft him?" |
