Nope. That's why they fired Byron and hired Luke. They're not tanking anymore.
They may not be a playoff team but that's not tanking. |
Disagree. If the roster doesn't add good vet talent and we suck the tank will be re-ignited. This is a premature ejac thread |
Yes, I can see the "TANK FOR TATUM" thread getting started about 10 games into Luke's tenure. |

And again. Not being a 40+ win team doesn't mean we are tanking. |
What would 30 or under be considered? |

You can wish for such folly and downtrodden times for the Lakers but i think it's over. We may not make the playoffs next year but we won't tank either. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Shyeeeet. Even if we double our wins from last year we'll still be a lottery team. |

Surprise there are lots of 'how dare you be optimistic and happy about our team' responses.
I'm one of those happy and optimistic Lakers fan. Agreed with OP, the last 3 yrs was a masterful stealth tank job, getting young talents while featuring Kobe on his last legs.
Now with the coach in place, Luke
PG - D'Lo
SG - JC
SF - Ingram
PF - Randle
C - Zubac
Bench - Nance, Brown, Lou, Nick
Everything from this point on are upgrades with veterans signing
The tank is indeed dead, next goal is playoff |

It's going to take close to all star like improvements from Clarkson and Russell and signing Whiteside for us to make the playoffs. I think realisticcally we can win 35 games and that would be an accomplishment. |

Yes, playoff is the goal.
How fast we get there depends on our FA signing and the growth of our youngs.
35-40 wins is a realistic goal but of course I'll be wishing for a playoff spot... imagine if we get the 8th spot and the youngs get a taste of playoff series against GS, what a valuable experience |

Claiming that "there is no way" that a tank will happen is tantamount to saying that there is no reason to worry about the Titanic on its maiden voyage. I certainly **hope** that our tanking is finished. _________________ “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”

That would be nice. One added benefit is that the draft choice that the Lakers need to give to Philadelphia would be relatively low. _________________ “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”

Best scenario have a season like Portland with DLO/JC performing like Lillard/Mcollum. All I can hope for is that one of the young Lakers start to become a budding all star until then most win now FAs are gonna treat this team as pre-CP3 Clippers 2.0 |

I don't think so. It wouldn't make sense to tank this season. |

How about we try this exercise...list all the teams in the west that u think we r better than.
If we find ourselves towards the bottom of the standings the tank will be back on to preserve our top 3 protected pick. It's the smartest move from mgmt standpoint. If we aren't making playoffs might as well tank and acquire potential superstar in the draft. Harry giles, josh Jackson, Dennis smith, tatum, fultz, fox. _________________ “We don’t back down from nobody, we don’t care who you are and every time we step on the floor we step on the floor to win and compete with whoever.” -Trevor Ariza |

War outcomes aren't determined by diplomats, in this case us computer jockeys.
The outcome will be determined in the battlefield, in this case the basketball court.
Then we will know if the is dead or not. I hope it is. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Call me the prophet of progress. I was dour on the team for the past 3 years. I'm not now. I'm genuinely looking forward to the next 2-3 years.
Sorry y'all have an absolute right to be dour but I'm not. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I hope the John Irelands of the world stop decrying tanking now that the Lakers have taken full advantage of the league's welfare program. It was really obnoxious when he kept slamming the 76ers when they were only a game or two better in the tank standings. |

When I think "Tank" - I think "Try to keep the top-3 protected pick."
If we win 30 games, our odds of keeping the top 3 protected pick suck.
If we win 25 games, our odds of keeping the top 3 protected pick still suck.
As a strategy, we'd have to try to lose real hard in order to tank enough to keep that top 3 protected pick. That would mean tons of Injured Reserve time for bruised shins, awful rotations featuring Ryan Kelly at 3 again, no screening, a one-play offense with no flow, no read/react mentality, and sitting on our promising young core all season if they threaten to break out and win. That's what it would take to get us such an awful win loss record that we'd actually have more than a remote chance of keeping the top 3 protected pick. Kinda like we did last year. With no KFT to appease impatient fans and networks.
I think we're done tanking. |

If the Lakers land one of the top 3 picks in 2017, then the picks go LA, PHILLY, LA in 2017-19, respectively, with Orlando getting LA's 2nd rounders in 2017 and 2018.
If the Lakers get the 4th pick or later in 2017, then the picks go PHILLY, LA, ORLANDO for 2017-19, respectively.
So the next three years, including whether LA gives up one first rounder or two, all hinges on the 2017 lottery. If the Lakers are IN the lottery, and their ping pong balls come up so they get one of the first three picks, then they keep two first rounders. |
If we tank next season we get to keep our first round picks 2 out of the next 3 years.
If we don't tank, we get to keep our first round pick once of out of the next 3 years.
Hmmmmm. Tank over? I wouldn't be so sure. _________________ “We don’t back down from nobody, we don’t care who you are and every time we step on the floor we step on the floor to win and compete with whoever.” -Trevor Ariza |

I am sure. Larry's post wasn't advocating or intimating that they would therefore tank. It was just stating the owed draft picks status.
Do you realize how badly this team would have to play to be in play for a top 3 pick. We won 17 games and it was basically a 50-50 proposition. That's the wrong message to send to its fan base and young players especially since we got a few studs with 2 #2 picks. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |
