Seems like Nick Young will be a Laker for now, but we can still trade or waive/stretch him at any point. As long as he's not messing with DLO's performance on and off the court and as long as he can hit open 3's at a decent rate then I guess there's no harm keeping near the end of the bench.

We missed the deadline to stretch him this season.

No. Just missed the deadline to stretch the last 2 seasons over 5, which would have not been smart, since it would reduce the cap hit by an insignificant amount this year while increasing the amount and number of years he would count as dead money on the cap.

IC. Thank you for the correction.

Brown hasn't shown much at all offensively thus far. His best game was in the summer league this year and it was far from anything special. Simply adding Young to this line up doesn't make it an offense heavy line up at all.

These stats from last season sum up Brown's offense nicely.

31% from the field and 29% from 3. And 67% of his FGAs he was open or wide open, no defender within 4 feet of him!

Damn that's rough. I mean I hope he can improve but as long as he hasn't shown me the improvement I easily take Young over him and I take Young over Lou aswell because he has shown that he could at least be active defensively. Now don't get me wrong this is all hypothetical and I'am all for parting ways with Young because of what happened between him and D'Lo.

So we've established that Brown and Young both sucked at shooting last season. Brown plays solid defense though. Brown over Young and it isn't even close.

We can also establish that both Young and Brown were jerked around by Byron last season.

True. That can throw comparisons off. We'll find out soon enough what the FO decides but I don't see a lot of upside to Young at this stage.

From what I see, the Lakers should keep Young as the 15th player.

No sense in paying Young to play for another team. And if he can be traded without giving up assets do so. But don't give up assets to get rid of him.

At the very least Young will be out of sight and as insurance against injury.

If he goes on one of his rants against, can him. He is on a short leash.

I'll give the FO the benefit of the doubt on this. They knew what went on behind the scenes with DLO/Swaggy and what continues to happen today. With a new regime coming in and the young guys (notably DLO) taking prominent roles, saving $ isn't worth the negative influence he'd continue being.

All Nick Young has to do to earn his big money is to shut up and not make waves.
Even stay at home and watch the game on tv.

No sense in paying to get rid of him.

And paying him to play for someone else is stupid also.

Why keep getting this type of player who gets the team in this kind of situation?

So you'd pay for him to stay home and play NBA2k? Who cares. If he's a distraction, cut him. Let him get his $ from the Lakers, it's a sunk cost.

And a small one at that. 5 mill annually is a big deal in the real world. But not in the NBA.
If we think he's a cancer. Cut him.

Yup. I trust the FO to make the right call on that. If Luke/DLO are good with Swaggy, so be it. If the FO/Luke think Swaggy/DLO is a bad dynamic, Swaggy's a goner.

Not really sold about Swaggy and D'Angelo burying the hatchet. Those sound like a couple very forced sures to me @ 1:27. Of course it's hard to get the full context from a <2 minute clip. Maybe that was the 5th person to ask DA about the Nick situation. But it didn't feel encouraging.

Reading too much into it. Sounds more like he's just tired of talking about it and wants to move on.

I don't think you're reading too much into it at all TBH.

As much as I detest Nick Young at this point, it is the team's decision. If Brown was even an option, which right now he would have trouble starting at SF for a junior college team. then Little Nicky would already be gone.

Personally, I'd like to see an act of contrition, something from Nick that says to the team, "hey I'm done wearing diapers and being a jackass, I'm going to act and play basketball like a grown man. Maybe marry that girlfriend he got pregnant. Maybe take out the trash around Staples Center until the team wins 20 games. Maybe start mentoring youth down at Long Beach Poly.

Then again, maybe monkeys will fly out of my butt.

I agree. They haven't spoke and Nick has thrown a lot of shade his way. DLo portrays exactly that in the interview imo. Don't think he's salty, just knows that their relationship is absolute (bleep)

Nick Young is going to sit for the Chinese National anthem when he's playing in the CBA this year?

i really hope so. A team like Oakland A's took a 11m hit cause Billy Butler was not conducive to the team environment.

hope lakers do the same

I don't have a problem with him protesting; it's his right to do so. Thing is though I doubt he'll be on the team to have the opportunity to protest.

What a joke. He is simply looking for attention.

He should listen to what Shaq said recently.

There are other ways to make a statement. Also, where was he last year when we were having "these problems".

I would like to know how time he has dedicated to these various causes.

Someone should call him out on this.

Cut him so we can end this thread.
