Start a new with the next all star free agent that's going to save the Lakers.

We're gonna attract top FAs once we get good, rather than get good because we attracted a top FA. Paul George in '18 is the guy who the planets are best aligned for.

Exactly, but people are impatient and want shortcuts.

80% polled here agreed with you.

In hindsight, we were obscenely lucky with those ping balls. At the very least we have homegrown potential to look forward to.

no doubt. the disappointing dynamic is really just getting our hopes up for FA's every year, and then even more the following season - because our youth is growing. But still, looks like we'll have to wait even longer.

Westbrook was the realistic quick fix.. now, a more appropriate timeline ensues.

Part of me is saddened because I'm a huge fan of Westbrook. Another part is happy that this means the Lakers won't be trading D'Angelo or Ingram anytime soon.

If WB does stay another year in OKC, I would have him behind P George as a target in two years.

You're fired.

Believe it or not, this is a real tweet. Adam Joseph is a writer for SB Nation & B-Ball Breakdown, although the idea that he'd scoop everyone on this isn't terribly plausible.

Sounds like he did just that.

I guess I'm fired. Apologies for calling the og poster out.

This doesn't rule out a trade possibility at all. It only enhances OKC's leverage. The deal could be wink-wink predicated on OKC trading Westbrook.

I for one am happy this has happened because it means WE won't be trading for him. There's no way Westbrook would do this so he could be traded to a gutted team. However, if he's going anywhere, it's most likely Boston, since they have so many assets that weren't in their rotation last year. Would also explain why Boston is shopping Amir (if true).

While it's true that it doesn't mean he won't be traded, if he's re-upping through 2019 it won't be this year. I can't think of the last superstar to get moved with more than a year left on his deal.

I'm fine with Westbrook signing a 3 yr deal with OKC since I'm sold on our young guys and on the idea that DLo's buddies KAT and Booker will join him here to form the next gen superteam in a few years.

The $9M bump this season doesn't hurt. He essentially traded one extra guaranteed year (at his max) for $9M this season. Makes sense financially.

Hopefully 1 year deals to keep a max slot for 2018 with PG13 and Cousins

He's gonna regret signing that extension when he realizes they are a .500 team without Durant.

Also he will be in line for higher % of the cap when he hits free agency now being a 10 year vet instead of a 9 year vet

Hopefully we get lucky one more time with a top 3 pick in the next draft. Give the young guys more time to develop and try to attract PG13 and Cousins in 2018 #NoShortCuts

Yup, and then he can get the supermax without having to do a 1+1 somewhere else and hoping that team has capspace for him two summers in a row.

Aside from the LeBron and Durant deals, the home-team incentives seem to be paying off for most teams, assuming they try to pay the guys as much as they are allows to make.
