The Lakers just need to take a page out of the godfather ....
Set up a meeting with Sam Presti ...
"Sam our offer to you is NOTHING, you will send us Russell and we will send you salary cap" ~ Mitchell Kupleone
** Then they open the door and have Momma Westbrook sit down next to Mitch **
queue Godfather music

Before the Deng/Mozgov deals and most of the big free agents signing elsewhere, I would have said yes. In that case maybe Westbrook brings in Horford/Whiteside. Now, a trade for Westbrook would leave the Lakers a borderline playoff team/bottom seed at best. If Westbrook leaves next offseason, the Lakers will takes years to dig themselves out of the hole.
Roster talent has been a key recruiting tool for free agents, so keep the kids, hope they develop, and go after Westbrook next summer. |

I agree but trying to see it from Jim buss's angle. I could sebum trying "win now," whatever that means. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Im all for brining in a top 5 talent like westbrook, but it wont happen via trade. Makes no sense for us to do that right now by trading our young players |

Put it this way. Say that you are Jim Buss and you have basically one year to make the playoffs. Do you make a trade? _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Stay the course. We really don't need any shortcuts at this point. Can't lose assets for a one year rental regardless of the player being acquired. Lakers need to take the long term view. In the meantime I hope the fans and FO are patient. Enjoy the ride and development of the young players. Hopefully Lakers will add their Durant in FA down the line once the kids prove they can win. |

BOOM! | more like Joey Buss talking to some Kate Adams lookalike "so Mitch went to see Presti and offered DLo plus two future first round picks for Westbrook, but he said no. So the next day Mitch went there again only this time with a couple of Mozgov's Russian friends, and within an hour, he got a deal getting Westbrook for Nick Young, Lou Williams and a future 2nd round pick."

In all honesty I wouldn't trade for Westbrook even if he had 3 years left on his contract, I wouldn't trade for Westbrook on a boat, plane or canoe. |

Lol people acting like they're smarter than the Lakers FRont office. Obviously with a trade, there would be an extension in place first |

Of course he can give you a verbal agreement he will stay, but ask Mark Cuban how well that worked with DeAndre. _________________ Ringo "You retired too?"

If we got Westbrook, then we won't have to game plan for guarding him. _________________

He isn't top 3, but he's up there.
That said, I wouldn't complain if we got him, but I'd have some concerns. He just doesnt seem like a cerebral type of player. He is pure athleticism but he doesnt strike me as a smart player.
If we did get him, we would still need a leader who can keep him in check. |

Yup. In a vacuum of course we shouldn't trade young assets for a 1 year rental of WB. but this isn't a vacuum. We are all on the Buss for better or worse. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

No. Cost is too high for Westbrook.
It would gut the team of multiple assets just to revisit a lesser version of the Kobe/Smush/ Kwame years. For what purpose? Rebuilding or as senseless "Win Now" fantasy.
Lakers have depth and versatility. They need to develop the players and culture. Give players a reason to "join" a team by getting competitive. The sign Westbrook next year. Or whichever free agent that is interested at that time. |

Laker fans debating whether or not to trade for an in-prime Top 10 player is eerily reminiscent of the debates over whether or not max FAs that we couldn't get a meeting with were worth the money. That was a week ago and I'm not sure the lesson was learned. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

well, thinking about it again, westbrook wont sign with us next season, so if the lakers want him that bad they should trade for him, but you going to play him mozgov deng and clarkson? there's not much in the way of good free agents available, besides lebron |

Not really. Westbrook has his agent (Wasserman Group) tell the Thunder he wants to be traded to the Lakers. Anywhere else and he will tell the team he will not re-sign with them.
Lakers obviously get word of this from the agent and are in the driver's seat.
OKC can only deal him to the Lakers so there are no other teams to give competing offers.
Give OKC a deadline that this needs to be done before the season to avoid any Carmelo Anthony BS _________________ #11/08/16 America became GREAT again

Papa Buss would gamble and wait for Westbrook, West would bring him in. Time for their kids to turn things around with Mitch and restore tradition next offseason. |
