Deng and a pick(s) for Lin ?! |
Brooklyn is ready to give up on chasing FAs next offseason? |
Lin was traded to Atlanta this offseason, VLF.
Don't blame you for not knowing all the moves crappy eastern conference teams make in the offseason though. |

Any website that requires me to turn off my adblocker gets x'd. I wonder what we'd have to attach to Deng to get an expiring back. I wouldn't mind bringing Lin for a year. |

Hoping he took less. But I think it's respectful on FOs end to just let him go at this point rather than have him sit another year. |

Because he agreed to a buyout. How much less he's accepted than what he was due isn't known yet. |

Unless he gave back a lot of money, I’m so confused. _________________ #countonkobe |

I think moving Deng this way, gets us under the cap now. I'm not sure what that means exactly other than ... perhaps it positions us to acquire a player via trade for cap space? |

Starting today, we could stretch the last year of his deal (19-20). So this years salary counts in full against the cap, and the stretched amount will begin next season (waiting to hear if Deng gave anything back). Basically the FO decided the hit over the next 3 years was better than the assets they would have had to attach to dump his salary.
I thought this was the move all along, but wouldn't happen until next off-season. |

How does this affect the cap? Waive and stretch is the same as the stretch provision or different? How quickly can we expect Tom Thibodeau to offer him a roster spot? _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points." |

Doesn't do anything for this year. Goal would be to take money of the 2nd year because that's the amount that would be stretched. |

Opens up at least $12mill in space next summer. |

Oh, well never mind what I said then. If the salary counts in full for this year, why do it now? Couldn't we have just done it before whatever the deadline is next year?
Unless we're just trying to help out Deng. |

Which they could do next summer as well. Closes off any chance to trade him and get even more cap room. Maybe with enough of a discount to make the reward and surety offset the risk? _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. I guess it could make sense now. For example, maybe Deng gives us a really good deal now.
But next offseason, he would have more leverage because we'll need the cap space more then than we do now.
So, the buyout terms must have been sufficiently favorable for us to want to pull the trigger now. |

It’s possible Magic and Rob wanted to do him a solid so they can get on a team where he actually gets on the floor next season. |

True, this means they didn't believe the assets required to dump Deng's salary in whole was worth it. I think I agree with that. The stretched ~6mill in 20-21 and 21-22 won't matter cap wise once Ingram's extension kicks in. Hoping he took money off the end since the FO let him go early. One distraction eliminated. |

I doubt though, that they would agree to any deal they felt would limit their options next year. |
