Luol Deng praises young players’ work ethic

Los Angeles’ core has been getting in early and staying late, impressing one of the team’s veteran leaders in the process.

Luke Walton’s System Helped Draw Luol Deng To The Lakers

Quote:
“I was really excited about the system and also the role that I would play,” Deng told Southern California News Group. “I’m able to play as hard as I can on the court and lead these guys, while also being a voice in the locker room.”

It will be awesome for the young guys to have legitimate starting quality vets in the lineup. Seriously, Loul and Moz are the first such examples of that for any of the guys drafted 2014 or since.

Mozgov/Deng/Calderon compared to Boozer/Price and other garbage is the size of Mt.Everest in terms of Impact and presence.

Luol Deng Says He’ll Lead Through His ‘Work Ethic’

“It’s a new chapter for me. This is my 13th year now.
I’m looking forward to being a part of it and leading the young guys,” Deng told AFP at a Lakers media session.

I'm glad Luke and the staff were being cautious with him, we know what Deng brings.

For season opener tomorrow vs HOU, Lakers list Calderon as doubtful (left calf), Deng (left leg) & Mozgov (tailbone) as probable

I've been a little nervous about Deng's health with all his "rest" games this preseason. I know he had a bruised leg, but whenever he played he looked a couple steps slow

"probably" means he's playing btw. Why would the Lakers risk playing him in preseason or Deng play hard in preseason? He's a veteran. Both he and the Lakers know what he brings.

Just give us 60-65 healthy games this year please.

Ingram can step in when he needs rests.

Anthony Brown injured him in practice.

And he came back from that and was playing halves but Luke decided not to push it and he looked fine when he was out there.

The only guy really hurting atm is Calderon.

Was a really nice and calming influence at the end of the game. Serves his role nicely.

+1

Unfortunately we don't have minutes for Bass, but he was role model last season.

+1
Nice to see him talk to D’angelo after his turnover at the end. Perfect mentor for the young guys in a close game like this.

Nice mentor but if he keeps up his mediocre play, Ingram will take that starter spot sooner than expected.

May be a better thing anyway...

Deng is a nice veteran balance next to JC/Nance/Black

There's no rush. Let Ingram get a lot of the rookie bumps out while coming off the bench with little expectation. With that said, I agree

Patience. Have you heard of that concept? Plus his role down the road is a reserve combo forward. He's keeping the seat warm for Ingram.
