He was playing like 15 minutes a game. Unless he is doing something crazy in practice I dont think there is a correlation.

I hear there is a guy named Bobe Kryant willing to play on a 10 day contract.

There is considering his age and the fact that he's been hurt with other teams as well.

*Luke Walton finds it ‘tricky’ integrating Jose Calderon into Lakers’ lineup

Quote:
In theory, the Lakers value veteran reserve point guard Jose Calderon for his experience and ability to play in spot minutes.

In reality, Lakers coach Luke Walton has not found many instances recently to grant Calderon that playing time. After nursing a strained right hamstring that sidelined him for 10 games, Calderon returned to the active roster only to have four healthy scratches entering Sunday’s game against Toronto at Staples Center.

Calderon has averaged 4.7 points on 48.1 percent shooting and 2.6 assists in 13.9 minutes through 14 games. Despite calling Calderon “ready,” Walton said he has found it “tricky” to integrate the 32-year-old veteran into the lineup for a few reasons.

* Luke Walton Struggling To Find Minutes For Jose Calderon

Quote:
We’d love to find opportunities to get Jose out there,” Walton said. “If it comes, we’ll give it to him.”

Lou Williams and Jordan Clarkson off the bench have caused a lot of issues for opponents so far this season, and Walton doesn’t want to break that up. Additionally, rookie Brandon Ingram also assumes a lot of ball-handling duties making it difficult to find even spot minutes for Calderon.

Walton also added that once Calderon does get back on the court, he will not have any restrictions.

If we waive anybody it should be Huertas.

Maybe Calderon will ask the Lakers to cut him loose for a shot at a championship.

Right now they are just sucking up roster space, but until we have something better come along they are just deep bench and practice players. I think we hold on to Calderon unless some competing team is willing to give us a draft pick. You never know what is going to happen with injuries, and Luke probably wants to have something besides very young players on the roster. Next year though, I think both Calderon and Huertas are gone.

Calderon still has some game left and would help any team in need of a PG, he was shooting 40% from 3 when he got PT.

Lakers guard Jose Calderon is reportedly drawing interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Quote:
Los Angeles Lakers guard Jose Calderon and Dallas Mavericks center Andrew Bogut, league sources tell ESPN.com, have emerged as two players who greatly interest the Cavs in their search for bench help.

How would the Cavs match salary with Calderon? That's why Huertes is easier to deal to them

No offense to Calderon, but can't the Cavs get better? I know they have zero cap space but Farmar or Chalmers sound better at this stage of their careers.

Because it would make sense to try to get something for him instead of just waiving him......

I guess it's a positive they think we're making a trade. I'm not sure under what scenario Calderon is used as cap filler in a deal.

And you somehow think they aren't trying and would rather waive him?

I dont think anyone would absorb Calderon's contract. The Lakers got free picks just for doing that.

I don't think they can absorb US$ 7M in their Cap and they don't have players to match salaries. The only option would be Calderón + something for Shumpert (10M/yr, 3 yrs), which doesn't make sense to me.

The only players they have making about the same money as Calderón are Frye (7,8M) and Korver (5,8M).

The way I read it was the Cavs aren't looking to acquire him through a direct trade, just off the scrap heap after some trade deadline roster upheaval pushes him into unemployment. I'd be shocked if they even traded Shumpert for Lou at this point let alone Calderon. They're basically just looking to add something for free, and he's one of those possibilities they're keeping an eye on.

How LA leverages Calderon as a trade asset is as much about their plan for cap space as anything else. Using him as an expiring to help another team clear space probably gets them a better return, and of done well possibly a piece that improves the roster a bit. But that puts the max slot dream in peril. Personally I would do it for a half decent return b/c I don't see that max guy joining this summer (and if you get a bite you can always manufacture things). But between what we've seen from management, including the dips in JC/TM/LD's contracts and Magic talking about that 'one guy', I don't expect them to enter July without a 7-9 year max.

Not sure Calderon fits what the Cavs want. Pretty sure Lebron needs another All-star to be competitive.
