Duncan is a top 10 player of all time
But this isn't that much of a debate. Kobe's fingerprints on the game are something that transcends the game itself. Duncan was an important, if not the most important ( for a long time at least ) part cog of a system that was very successful. Kobe was a force of nature and will individually that also had incredible team success. _________________ "Bryant has been the second best player in the NBA for over a decade, but the number 1 player changes every other year. I am a huge Kobe fan and I've always hated the Spurs but honestly I am going to have to say Kobe because I am a huge Kobe fan and I've always hated the Spurs. _________________ "The best there is. The best there was. The best there ever will be.", said Bret Hart regarding the Los Angeles Lakers. |

so for players drafted AFTER 1984 (jordan was drafted in 1984) who would be your TOP 5 drafted in the last 30 years (1985-2015)
kobe, shaq, duncan and lebron seem like no-brainers but #5 is awfully hard to think of.
props to west for getting 2 of the top 5 players in the last 30 years though. jeez. |

Better career?
Duncan. Same rings, more MVPs, more playoffs, better win percentage,
But Kobe had a greater impact on the game and was the better player. |

Even though this is a Lakers fan board, I'm curious to know the rationale behind why you believe who ended up on top.
For me, it's obviously Kobe. For a number of reasons, but among them is a full 5 rings vs. 4 1/2 (Duncan got that first one in a strike shortened season lol.) |
They were extremely different people, with extremely different types of games, but I'd consider their overall careers more or less equal.
In fact, I'd consider Kobe, Duncan and Shaq to have had equivalent careers when I factor in their overall success, personal accomplishments, longevity, and high and low points. |

Essentially, they are in the pantheon of all-time great basketball players, standing at the very top of the Naismith HoF. Pretty much any coach would take either guy without complaint for his #1 option, if for different reasons. I see equivalent greatness, each without peer at his position if perhaps only for one guy each excepted. |

Duncan had a better team, coach, and supporting cast on average throughout his career.
I don't even want to mention the front office and management.
I'll give Duncan the edge since his team was a perennial title contender. |
