It's nice to hit the game winner, but if you had made the 5 consecutive misses prior, you wouldn't have been in that position to begin with. |
this is bad logic. this is the same thing as what they call "mma math" in the fighting circles. x person beats y, y beats z, therefore x is better than z. Same thing with basketball. the idea that had those shots been made and you wouldn't be there in the first place is similarly incorrect.
take harden's classic case last year. in one of those 4th quarters in the playoffs, he made like 7 incredible shots in a row. Then he proceeded to embarrassingly fail in the last minute when the pressure had really climaxed and they lost the game. so in his case, he made all the shots leading up to it, then missed. he could have missed all of them leading up to it, and still missed. or whatever. it doesn't matter. what matters is that somehow there was a pressure packed moment and what did he do? he failed. turnover, miss, tried to get a call and didn't, etc. |
You're misunderstanding me.
What I'm saying is that if you get credit for being clutch for hitting the 3-5 or whatever buckets prior to the final shot, you should also get the discredit for not being clutch if you miss them.
You don't get to free roll on all plays prior to the final one. |
