My company is a franchisor. The pros and cons depend on the type of franchise.

I have looked into it a couple of times, I thought about maybe a 7 11.

I couldn't find a lot of situations where I felt like the numbers really worked, it is kind of like you are paying for a job.

My advice if you found an opportunity you were interested in would be to reach out to existing owners to see what they think about it.

I wouldn't buy anything without giving it a lot of thought and negotiating hard.

I'm always kicking around business opportunities and just about the only place I would be very willing to pay the franchising premiums (if I had the capital to begin with) would be In n Out which obviously does not franchise out.

I thought about the Chick Fil A franchises. Obviously, you kick back more, can only own one, and have less control, but they provide a lot of the startup costs and you only pay $10k. All the ones I've seen have been packed.

They're very strict in terms of the type of people they consider as a franchisee. Zero chance I'd qualify.

Considering some of the operator's I've seen, I'm shocked that they were selected.

Some franchises can be lucrative (hint, they tend to cost a lot and be competed for) like, while others, like 7-11, are really basically scams to get operators to work the long hours and take the risks (and pay the freight for the marketing) for what are essentially captive markets for distribution companies. They name the price and force you to buy from them, and you eat the stolen and damaged goods. And your markup is less than theirs, and you pay fees to do all of this for them.
