Cases in comparison: Conley and Derozan.
I just dont think they deserve the kind of money.
Shaq and Kobe would have easily been given 5 years 250 million. Each.

Chandler Parsons + Mike Conley money, so around $247 million over 4-5 years.

It depends on what point in their careers and how many years they had in the league, likely either 25 or 30% of the cap.

Prime Shaq and Kobe are unquestionable max players.

That's irrelevant.

Are there players that are worth more than the max? Absolutely. Under the current CBA, that doesn't matter. The max is the max is the max, which is why it is called the max. Pretty clever, right? Max means maximum.

DeRozan and Conley are also max players, simply because of the market. Does that mean that they are equals to players who are worth more than they can be paid? No.

The max is the max. Can't pay more than that. Does that mean if a team has a choice between Lebron and Derozan they don't care? Hell no.

Bottom line, this thread is meaningless.

As much as they could possibly get. Which would still not equal their real market value.

The same as Conely. The max permitted by the CBA.

They would have gotten the max. Next question?

That lies the difference.
I DONT THINK THEY (derozan n conley) ARE MAX PLAYERS UNLIKE LEBRON OR CURRY for example. Even though Curry failed to perform his best.

Max player is a player whose salary is at the max. Nothing more, nothing less.

Maybe by max player you mean "Someone so good that the max severely limits what they would otherwise make in an open market and end up having some of the best contracts in the league" like LeBron or Durant. I tend to prefer the definition of "Someone getting paid the max," personally. Less confusing that way.

What you think doesn't really matter, though. There is no way to pay prime Kobe and Shaq more than the max. And the market dictates that DeRozan and Conley are max players as well.
