The only pertinent question, it seems, is "who is willing to come to the Lakers?" |

speaking of players coming to the team. When was the last time a top tier free agent came here, not named Shaq?
Speaking of Shaq, does anyone know the team record, the year prior to his arrival? they won 53 games and were the 4th seed. So when he came to the team, we were already good, The teams wasnt full of promise and potential. The team made the playoffs and even made it to the second round the previous year.
If this team is to attract FA's we will need to win close to or more than .500. Until we are there we will have to develop the young guys and over pay to attract players on the tail end of their career to mentor the young guys. |

Players are in this game to play the game and get paid, not necessarily in that order, but that't the long and the short of it...
I think players would be willing to come to LA, but we have to prove we're capable of competing and winning, making it to the playoffs could me a lot more to impact players from a financial perspective.
A lot of times players have incentives in their contracts that aren't published to the public, sure some are but for the most part, it's a money game!
I've said this before and will say it again, it takes a lot to play for the Lakers, simply because LA is not like any other city and you have to be able to withstand the pressure to play here.
Someone will come, but being able to win is a big key especially here, no one wants all that on their shoulders like Kobe had! |

The only players on that list that would be worth it and hasn't resigned is Serge Ibaka. Lakers won't be far enough under the cap to sign him outright and would have to be in a sign and trade.
Personally, I prefer to wait for 2018 free agency and try to get Demarcus Cousins. Lou Williams and Nick Young's salaries come off our roster that year as well. We might not have enough to offer Max but should come close to it. |
