Distraught mother calls police to say her son is missing and he is Autistic and has a history of violence and could act up

Luckily officer Purdy feels his skills are needed asap and goes to the scene...

Awesome ... just awesome ... for now, relating to a civilian on a human level is next level police work.

An therein lies the problem. There are no uniform standards for police academies across the country. That's why we end up with such great disparity in how Americans get policed. Some Americans get policed well, whilst other get policed atrociously. The start to solving our Policing issue is to first establish uniform policing standards like pretty much every other civilised country on the planet.

Here is Canada's UNIFORM policy on use of force that controls how all police across the country are to engage in the use of force:

Quote:
Canadian Law Enforcement professionals worked with American Law enforcement professionals to come up with a uniform countrywide framework which dictates just how law enforcement across Canada are to apply force when dealing with citizens. They've based the use of force framework on 6 key principles:

1. The primary responsibility of a peace officer is to preserve and protect life.

2. The primary objective of any use of force is to ensure public safety.

3. Police officer safety is essential to public safety.

4. The National Use-of-Force framework does not replace or augment the law; the law speaks for itself.

5. The National Use-of-Force framework was constructed in consideration of (federal) statute law and current case law.

6. The National Use-of-Force framework is not intended to dictate policy to any agency.

American Police aren't trained in the sanctity of Rule #1. They treat Rule #3 as Rule #1 and Rule #1 is merely a convenience.

I think

IIRC

To die in the line of duty used to be an honor

Now its more honorable to kill first before anything happens
