Actually they weren't hoping, they had been told he would re-sign.

And the Lakers can release the qualifying offers on Black and Huertas to create even more cap space.

Pretty sure they've already agreed to actual contracts with those guys?

Sadly, for whatever reason, the title of this thread put a tired Herman's Hermits song in my head ("There's A Kind of Hush")

Mitch: No. I thought you did.
Jim: Oh well, as long as he has a contract when the season starts.

Yeah. It could happen.

I have no inside info, but the silence about the unsigned rookies and Black is making me think the Lakers are up to something. There's no great free agents left unless LeBron is going to come here. Signing Mo Harkless as some talk radio guy suggested, doesn't seem like it would take all this calculating. I'm sensing a deal that is as big as acquiring Pau. The Lakers get extra quiet like a sneaky cat when they're about to do something and the signs are there.

The question is who is their target? Westbrook? Lebron? I'll start with a strong guess that it ain't Harkless.

Maybe I'm wrong, and I'm ok with that. I just wonder.

DLo for Westbrook? That'll make the Lakers instant playoff team, maybe top 5 in the West.

Not exactly. WB couldn't get okc into the playoffs when KD was down. And WB was playing like an MVP candidate.

I'd rather wait and see WB AND DLO next year.

Yup. And if some other team wants to gut itself for a one year rental its their loss, our gain when WB comes to the Lakers next summer.

I believe Dlo and Westbrook is a better fit than JC And WB. Better wait one season to bring him home keeping our assets.

or, the simple reason for the silence from the front office is that Ryan Kelly is simply weighing his options. Take the remainder of the money we have available, join the Jamaican Mafia as an enforcer or assume the lead singer role in the newly reformed version of Kajagoogoo. It's about more than money to Ryan, it's legacy man, legacy...

If any version of that deal is actually on the table, the Lakers would be foolish not to do it.

Westbrook might be the fiercest competitor in the league. If you doubt that, watch the games vs. the Lakers last season when he played with malicious anger against a 17 win lottery team and humiliated our guys.

I'd be sad to lose D'Lo but D'Angelo for WB straight up is a steal, lakers won't ever pass that up though OKC doesn't make that deal anyway.

I don't think anyone is against trading for WB, but knowing how OKC has a micro-scope on there heels after there 2 core players left they are gonna ask for the whole roster from any team that wants to trade for Westbrook, unless if Westbrook demands a trade to the Lakers then the whole game changes but I don't expect him to disrespect his team like that especially since hes willing to comeback and prove he can lead a team.

2.0 is Barry

Barry: Vincent Van Gogh. Everyone said to him, "You can't be a great painter, you only have one ear." And you know what he said? "I can't hear you."

Barry: In the words of John Lennon, "you may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not."

Tim: ...the only one.

Barry: The only what?

Tim: No, that's the lyric: "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."

Barry: Oh, OK Tim.

Barry: So dare to dream. Dream your wildest dreams. You can climb the highest mountain. You can drown in a teacup, if you find a big enough teacup. And if somebody tells you that you can't do something, you say, 'Yes, I can. 'Cause I'm doing it right now!'
