1)offensive strategy = score
2)defensive strategy = don't let them score

Actually, I only know little of what he wants.

Makes me really wonder. Walton has a lot to think about on both ends. It would be a recipe for disaster to copy and paste the warriors schemes.

It starts on the offensive end. We were so bad offensively and ranked almost last in every statistic that it lead to fast break points and bad defense. Our players have the physical tools to be at least average defensively this year, but they need to score efficiently first.

If Luke is for 3Ball I don't think we're gonna be efficient.

If not I wanna know the best options for us.

As for the OP, to have a successful season, we need to be in the upper half of the league in terms of pace. No Kobe, no Hibbert this year, we finished 18th last year in pace. I expect us to finish in the top 15 minimum in terms of pace. Finished 17th last year in transition usage, putting out 1 PPP at a 3.4 percentile, I expect those numbers to be higher. Finished 1st in isolation usage last year, putting out .77 PPP at a 13.8 percentile. Kobe, Randle, and Clarkson were the biggest culprits, in terms of isolation usage, as all three used over 100 possessions. Randle should lower his numbers significantly.

Too bad, I wanted to ISO Ingram to death at the high post.

I posted in another thread that I expected ~106 PPG for the first half of the season, till the All-Star break. Don't know what I was thinking. Relating to the question, I don't know enough or have the desire to go into great detail, so I'll speak to methodology. What we've gotten from Luke is that he will be all about the "method," rather than wins, i.e. playing the right way. Frankly, I would expect the first half of the season to be very "cautious," i.e. players trying to play the "right way," so I would expect us to be no better than average on the offense end. I think we will be average on the defensive end, however, too. The guys seem to understand that playing free but smart will be a priority.

Last season

Offense:
Do nothing for about 14 seconds, pass to Kobe if he is open or ISO.

Defense:
Man up

This season:
Anything would be a huge progress.

I think he will get some usage there especially with the second unit.

If only there were a video series called Laker Film Room available to give us the answers .

Seriously though, I'll get this season's Xs and Os thread started soon. I think the principles that Luke will bring in are very suited for this roster.

I think we'll be way below average on defense. Mosgov is a good defender at a slow pace, but on a quicker athletic team he won't be as effective. Randle is a poor defender, and we have many young players, who typically take longer to adapt to NBA defense. Deng will help on defense, but more as a PF than a SF.

1. Run, run, run. Play 10 players to keep everyone fresh.

2. Don't double off of shooters on defense. We got killed by hot shooters when we double post players who don't score much.

3. Russell needs to run the offense and have the ball in his hands most of the time.

4. Lots of pick and rolls with Clarkson/Randle/Nance.

Offense - Ball Movement, no isolation plays, push the pace, lots of off ball action.

Defense - Ball pressure, sound team defense, get to the right switches, funneling toward the baseline, trap screen and rolls, good hedges, and no over helping and quicker rotations.

Offense: Have fun. Share the ball. Get more shot attempts than the opponent.
Defense: Have fun. Be accountable.
