The NFL and NBA don't use the same methods to create schedules.

The Lakers have a harder schedule than the Warriors because the Lakers have to play the Warriors four times while the Warriors get to play the Lakers four times. If you take out that disparity, the SOS will be almost identical.

I know that.

Matt Winick and NBA Schedule

Quote:

1. NBA SCHEDULING FORMULA

Each team have to play:

4 games against the other 4 division opponents, [4x4=16 games]

4 games against 6 (out-of-division) conference opponents, [4x6=24 games]

3 games against the remaining 4 conference teams, [3x4=12 games]

2 games against teams in the opposing conference. [2x15=30 games]

A five year rotation determines which out-of-division conference teams are played only 3 times.

CREATING THE NFL SCHEDULE

Quote:

Here’s how each team’s opponents are set:

Every team plays six games against the other three teams in its division, facing off twice per season — once at home and once on the road.
The NFL's scheduling formula ensures that all teams will play every team from every division in the other conference once every four years.

The NFL's scheduling formula ensures that all teams will play every team from every division in the other conference once every four years.
Every team plays one game against each of the four teams from a division within its conference — two games at home and two on the road. Which division a team plays is determined by a rotation system ensuring that the teams in one division will play the teams in every other division in its conference once every three years.

Every team plays one game against each of the four teams from a division in the other conference once per season — two games at home and two on the road. These matchups are also determined by a rotation, which ensures that all teams play every team from every division in the other conference once every four years.

Every team plays its remaining two games against teams from the two remaining divisions in its own conference — one game at home and the other on the road. The matchups are determined by where the teams finished in their divisions in the previous season. For example, a team that finished the previous year in third place in its division will play the third-place teams from the two other divisions in its conference.

NFL teams have some games against their peer group (previous season's standings) while the NBA doesn't.

When the rest of the Pacific Division was relatively weak and the Lakers were strong, times were good and there was probably minimal sympathy on LG for the weak teams.

So we face Warriors 3 times in November, and then we don't play them again until the last game of the season?

Sigh, if you need any more evidence that the league hates the Lakers there you go.

Seriously we won 17 games last season and we got punished by facing a revamped, ridiculously loaded Warriors team that just added a top three player to a 73 win team that was a couple of shots away from winning another ring? Really?

Well, we have to play them 4 times every year, per the rules.

I don't know what you're so upset about, we probably got the 4 best times to play them. 3 times in November, before they've had a chance to gel together (see how the 2010 Heat, 2013 Lakers, and 2014 Cavs started the year). And then the last game of the season, while they're resting their players for the playoffs. That seems to help us more than anything..

Tru dat!

There are no easy schedules especially in the West. Control the things that you can control and do not let the other stuff sweat you.

It's going to be a fun opportunity to compete against the best and see how we match up. That's what competition is all about, bring 'em on ..... "We aint skeered!"

I am hoping we catch some of these teams off guard early. A lot of teams will probably write us off as an easy W but i think we will be much tougher.
