I think it's safe to say that the majority of us are realistic enough to understand that the chances of us making the playoffs are almost nonexistent (unless several of our youngsters develop much faster than anticipated).
As such, what would you classify as a successful season next year? Reaching a certain amount of wins? The proper implementation of Luke's modern offense along with all of the ball movement that entails?
The way I see it, I think the best thing that can come out of this season is our youngsters putting their growth and development on display for the entire league. This would probably help us lure a star free agent to our team. As fans, it's hard not to be focused on the win/loss column. But similar to what Luke said during an interview, I don't think that's what we should necessarily be focused on this next year.
I'm excited to see what our youngsters can do without Byron.

30+ wins with at least a 3 or 4 of the youngsters taking a big leap forward in terms of production and efficiency.
One of the youngsters showing signs of being close (1 year away) from being a superstar which will help in attracting free agents.
Many (not just a few) close competitive games against the upper half of the league. Drawing constant/consistent praise from other teams' players and coaches for their improvement.
Boston winning 40-44 games instead of the expected 50+ and flaming out badly in the 1st round, helping destroy their chances of attracting any marquee FA. Jaylen Brown looking completely clueless and lost and being the biggest bust ever. Boston fanbase calling for Ainge's head. This alone would make 2017 a good yr.
Portland falling back to Earth after overachieving last year, going 38-44, or better yet 34-48 or so which is where that roster belongs anyways.
That'll be a good year.

Install modern offensive and defensive systems, get the young kids to buy into playing defense, and seeing growth from them during the season. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
#1 most important thing next season is seeing the young players develop and show that they will be a force in the future. Most importantly, Russell needs to show that he is worth being a cornerstone of the franchise, and Ingram shows enough flashes to indicate the same thing. If Zubac continues his play, and looks like he is going to be a part of the core, all the better. Randle, Nance, and Clarkson will be just as important, but I don't think they have the ceiling that the other 3 have.
#2 Moving the needle in terms of wins, anything close to 30 and I'll be happy. It's about time for this team to get the needle pointed in the right direction in terms of wins, and show free agents and our young guys that the Lakers are an up and coming team with future stars. _________________ "It's just a job. The beginning of a new winning culture starts this season. No I don't expect a lot of victories but I do expect competitive games and development from our young guys. I wanna see some direction. No more laughingstock.
The young guys growing. I won't be mad if they only win 24 games if some of these guys buy into playing defense and show they can be useful in what Luke wants to run. DLO being an effective leader, Ingram showing flashes, plus JC and Randle showing any improvement in range and defense is most of what I care about.

Season Success

Season success is Brandon comes out and shows he's more talented than most of the league, ripping souls out of enemy arenas. Russell loses his cell phone but becomes an efficient playmaker and increases his bball IQ. Team wins 35+ games and I'd consider that all to be a major boost in the right direction. _________________ "We are the goodest." - Shaq ESPN interview
