Take your pick of whatever version of Kobe you think would be best for this team, and stick him on the roster in lieu of Lou Williams.

Do we take out the GSW? Miss the playoffs entirely? Middle of the pack, second round fodder?

Personally I think having Kobe would instantly give us the best player in any series, especially since LeBron is getting up there and Curry isn't a great defender. While our team is extremely young and unproven, we'd probably have a puncher's chance, much like in 2008 before we got Pau.

That said, assume our roster stays the same and we don't trade Ingram or DLO for an all-star to pair with Kobe.

Just the current team, minus Lou, plus prime Kobe vs the 2016-2017 NBA.

Are you kidding?

Kobe took a team full of d league players to the playoffs twice.

This team would probably be a top four seed.

Just adding prime Kobe. I'd put us 3rd in the west. Clippers/Memphis level team. Not quite San Antonio level. And GS's all star team would be above us.

I'd love to see prime Kobe in a system like this.

50-52 wins? 55 wins? You get elite perimeter defense and elite shotmaking. Both are probably this team's biggest weakness.

edit: Boils down to the fact that this team is way better than the '05-'06 Lakers which won 45. Even the '06-'07 Lakers were a 0.667 team halfway through the season, though injuries laid that season to rest.

With Phil or without?

With Phil... maybe the second round.

Without Phil, borderline playoff team.

And with young talent. My fascination with that idea is mostly why I made this thread

we'd definitely be a playoff team. And as a point of reference of the potential just look at the teammates Kobe had when we nearly eliminated a very talented Suns team in the 2006 playoffs.

Even without Phil Kobe makes us 25-30 wins better. He was THAT good.

Yah, he just had much greater success with Phil, than he did without.

I'm not sure if he's even won a second round playoff game without Phil.

Kobe with Phil coincided with him having a good to great supporting cast. Without Phil he didn't so I don't think that is a assumption you can make.

You can make the argument that Kobe's best team without Phil was Nash and Dwight but then you had Dwight and Nash playing with significant injuries.

Yes, a couple. But Phil was key in championship success.

How about the point of contention that he went back to back and 3 straight finals with pau gasol and a few B players - Kobe was an absolute beast

Always felt like prime Kobe gave us a chance to win it all and I'd feel no differently if he was on this team.

Not enough men on team to do much damage in playoffs, but I see 45-50 regular-season wins.

No one on this team is as good as LO in those days, but this is a more talented team overall then Cook, Smush, Kwame and crew.
