The Los Angeles Lakers are currently loaded with young talent, but after this season’s over, who will have had the better rookie season, D’Angelo Russell or Brandon Ingram?
Quote: | Seeing that Russell’s rookie campaign is already water under the bridge, realistically the question at its basest becomes if Ingram be able surpass his predecessors numbers of 13.2 points, 3.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds a game. Similar to Russell’s rookie season, Ingram’s Summer League performance left much to be desired, though he did show glimpses of exactly why the Lakers’ regarded him so highly before the draft. |

I'm willing to say Brandon's rookie season will be infinitely less frustrating than D'Lo's. |

I think despite the Parking Brake, DLO put up a good rookie season. He went 13/3/3 on 35% from 3. Without the KFT and the Parking Brake, he probably could have put up 15/4/5 last year.
I think Ingram will have a good rookie year, but he will be behind Deng. I hope he can get 26-28 mpg+ but if he only gets that much this year, he may put up somewhat modest stats of say 10/5/2 kind of numbers (which will belie how great he will become). _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

No doubt. Less asinine "questioning manhood" style of "coaching." _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Dlo had to deal with Byron and KFT while Ingram has much better circumstances around him. So Ingram should have the better season as a rookie, through no fault of DLos. |

If Ingram is supposed to be the clear cut superstar then why shouldn't he do better? |

I don't see Ingram as the clear cut superstar. He's got all the potential in the world but he will need a lot of time to develop. |

The only thing Ingram is gonna develop in the early stage is his physical attributes and his weight.
He's gonna be a problem for players to deal with once he steps into the Basketball court. |

Unlike Russell, Ingram will have the benefit of a coach not sabotaging him at every turn. I expect Ingram to have a good rookie season, though ROY is up in the air if he doesn't start. |

Simmons will be given the keys to the 76ers and allowed to make mistakes. He probably plays 35mpg+. He's going to put up counting numbers while Ingram is probably off the bench behind Deng, and hopefully getting 26-28 mpg.
ROY means little over the arc of a career. I think Ingram has a chance to be a more impactful overall player than Simmons at the end of the day. Both franchises got a stud. We should be very happy to get Ingram. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

No Byron Scott anymore so Ingram. Doesn't mean he'll be better than Russell, just he won't be held back like Russell was in his rookie season.
However there is also other factors now that could hold Ingram back somewhat.
- Other young core players on the team (Russell, Clarkson, Randle) taking up possessions/shots as well. Won't be given the keys from day 1 like Simmons in Philly will.
- Probably won't start out with A LOT of minutes like a couple of other rookies due to sharing them with Deng unless he beasts right out the gate.
- Might not start at the beginning of the season with Deng here now (although I think Ingram SHOULD start but that's a whole different topic for another day).
As much I want for Ingram to be ROY obviously, that will most likely be very difficult considering the points above. However with that said, he probably will have a better rookie season stats wise just due to a new coach. _________________ Darvin Scam: https://media.tenor.com/images/3c15249955860a4b16b59e8ae035fb75/tenor.gif |

This is really unfair to D-Lo. The dude was tied down in shackles from Scott. I'll pass on this for that reason. _________________ I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying. |

Unless Ingram goes on a scoring tear, I don't see how he will be a 13 ppg scorer (DLO's rookie year) this year off the bench. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

D-Lo & Brandon are going to be stars but it's going to take time. Fortunately they will be allowed to grow under a new coaching regime.
The important thing is that both gain experience and improve vastly throughout the entire season.
It's going to be a joy watching both bloom into formidable NBA players. |

Ingram doesn't have to worry about Blockbuster Byron. |

I think he'll average 18PPG.

He's not displacing Deng in the starting lineup yet. I can see maybe if he balls at the end of the year. I don't see the Lakers starting Deng at PF either. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

As of now we don't know....They haven't even had training camp yet.
Once they've gone through training camp the coaching staff will make a decision. |

Of course that's the case. But I doubt Deng signed with the understanding he's coming off the bench. It may not be the case by the end of the year, but I certainly see Ingram being a top reserve off the bench at the beginning of the year. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Which is why I wen with DLo as having the better rookie year. _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Whatever, pow, three. I love the Zen, though." |
