Henry only was 'injury prone' when he messed up his knee playing point guard for us trying changes of direction that he had no business even being in position to try to do, and then he played through the injury when he could, and the next season was still recovering because of that fact.

The only other real time he missed time was when he took a bad fall and when one of our guys unintentionally kicked him in the face and caused his head to bleed.

Something to think about with Xavier Henry too. He spent last year on the Warriors roster and then D-league team where they ran the same styles.

So he knows the offense we're going to be run and likely how he'd fit in it.

With the Lakers he had the knee and achilles injuries, but he had a long history of injuries before that. Among those are another knee surgery (as well as a knee sprain in different season), torn ligaments in his ankle, and some back issues. He never played more than 50 games in any of his five seasons. I like the guy, he played well when he played for the Lakers, but I'm not sure his body can hold up. It's tough to come back from an achilles injury.

Hairston, at 6'5", is a pretty good defender that can guard multiple wing positions which is just what we need..
At his young age (23) I think he would be a good fit for this team. He has a good stroke offensively and has the potential to develop into a really good defender.

I hope he at least gets a camp invite. PJ has NBA potential and may actually be able to help this team.

Well, Yi won the camp without being there

maybe somebody about to get dropped/traded?

Obvious odd man out is still Young. Despite his recent "positive talks with Walton" reports it is still highly likely he is moved or cut.

Unfortunately a trade seems a long shot and the Lakers will need to waste either cap or a 2nd rounder to get rid of him. Hopefully that changes.

Having this kind of workout for free agents is just looking at talent and potential signings down the line if an injury occurs. Going to be interesting to see if any get camp invites and potentially earn that Young roster spot.

Henry or Hairston seem most likely but who knows what Kupchak has planned. Not sure anyone saw the Yi move coming. Whats next?

I saw his highlights and he diffinitely knows how to play, shocked that no team showed interest in him he was doing really well last year and produced when he got PT.

Steve Clifford with some constructive criticism on Hairston:

Quote:
"P.J., to me, has the chance to be a very good player. His approach has to be where he is constantly learning what the NBA game is about. He’s hasn’t done that well."

"Potentially he could be a starter. He can shoot with range and rebounds for his position. But he hasn’t developed any way to play to make his teammates better."

But he has praised his defense:

Quote:
“He has the size and strength to guard primary scorers,” Clifford said Thursday. “You have to have those guys. He is technically getting better. He’s bright. He’s been here now, so he knows what we’re doing.”

Just seems like it's a mindset thing for him. Has the tools and ability to be a lockdown defender. Maybe Luke and the coaching staff here can bring the best out of him.

Hairston has the tools and skills. He's also incredibly immature and has off-the-court issues.

Maybe his Tar Heel ties may give him a camp invite.

Realistically it is a long shot that he is added to the squad. But most of his issues seem to be mental and attitude based. Was just reading some of his scouting reports and I am encouraged. After lower then expected expectations since being drafted it remains to be seen if he is ready to be a professional!

Seems like a nice 3rd string SG IMO. Assuming Young's roster spot opens up and the Lakers rely on the offensive production of Williams it leaves a nice potential battle between Brown and a guy like Hairston for playing time.

Oh Hairston can ball. He's also an underrated defender.

It's just he's as mature as a 13 year old and has caused major problems in college and at every NBA team he's joined. Sad that a talented kid like him is pissing his career away.

After seeing this thread I may have to make Hairston my new "Upshaw" for this year's camp.

Then likely just as disappointed when he blows his opportunity and Young remains on the team. Reminiscent of Sacre holding onto his roster spot.

Good thing is guys like Stephen Jackson and other pot heads ended up having a pro long career after they had real influence people on the team. We have enough leaders to somewhat give Hairston a shot at resurrecting his past problems and becoming more mature.

I was glad to read that he was at our camp today. But I haven't really followed him.

What's been his off the court problems? Those quotes from his coach earlier, is that reflecting a bad attitude or poor work ethic?

Also, REALLY happy to see X back! I hope we give him a camp invite!

Xavier/Ayres/Hairston are all NBA quality players I hope we end up making 1 of em have a shot at making the roster, if the staff can help Hairston's off court issues that will help us add another talent to the roster.

Henry's body is made of glass. he was looking like a nice role player for us a couple years ago, but he has had very serious injuries since then. His game was built on slashing and athleticism and I don't think he'll be the same player anymore.

PJ Hairston is a headcase and he has been poor since he came into the league a couple of years ago. he's supposed to be a shooter, but has shot 34% from the field and 29.5% from three. Pass.

The roster is at 15, and there are always camp invites to bring the roster to 20. Either there wasn't enough on the SPL roster or it wasn't good enough to fill out the other 5 positions or the team just wanted to take a look at some players that would be better to bring in.

He will surely make the D-League for us. Just to big to let go.
