So I was watching The Mask for the zillionth time the other night and I remembered how much I (bleep) love that movie. Then I started feelin a bit of 90s nostalgia and I started thinking what some of the best comedies from that period were... something about those 90s comedies just had alot of heart and personality but still packed a timeless comedic punch... IMO lots of underrated flicks that really encapsulate the culture and zeitgeist of the decade, yet still look fresh the more you rewatch them.

What are some of your favorites??

some of mine..

The Mask
Dazed and Confused
Dumb and Dumber
Big Lebowski
Clerks
There's Something About Mary
Friday
Groundhog Day
Home Alone
Big Daddy

Mall Rats and Chasing Amy don't hold up imo. Clerks is still enjoyable.

That was a Cohenmedy. Not quite a drama, not quite a comedy. Buscemi's leg sticking out of a wood chipper while his blood sprays all over the snow from the other end is horrific, yet still, kind of cohenmedic.

one of my dark horse favorites is Money Talks
Chris Tucker single handily transformed an otherwise uninspired, forgettable movie into IMO one of the most underrated comedies of the 90s. It's such a shame he decided to stop making movies for so long.

A little bit like Pulp Fiction, you kind of chuckle at the ridiculousness of the suggested scenario, even tho you know you probably shouldn't. I will say Cohen's are a little more "grounded" than QT as weird as that may sound.

It's got Alan Rickman doing Alan Rickman things so it passes my litmus... only negative I can think of is probably Tim Allen.

"Galaxy Quest" is deservedly a big cult hit now and yes, Alan Rickman is a big reason as to why. "My Cousin Vinny" is in my top-5 comedies ever. "Kingpin" and "Happy Gilmore" get very high marks for me because their villains (Bill Murray and Christopher McDonald) are hilarious. The first "Ace Ventura" is Jim Carrey at his best. Just a really funny movie all the way through.

"My Blue Heaven" is highly underrated and has a lot of really funny moments. Steve Martin (whom I don't always like) is hilarious as an Italian mob caricature.

Also very underrated is "Soapdish", which has a great cast (Sally Field, Kevin Kline, Robert Downey Jr, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Shue, Kathy Moriarty, etc.)

As a big Leslie Nielsen fan, I'll give some love to "Naked Gun 2 1/2" (already mentioned) and "Naked Gun 33 1/3".

I enjoyed "Grumpy Old Men" quite a bit, and maybe that's because I have a soft spot for Burgess Meredith.

"Dave" (more love for Kevin Kline) is a great movie, one with some heart as well.

Trying to think of some others that haven't been mentioned yet. Here's some of mine that I like...

"The Waterboy"
"BASEketball"
"Cadillac Man"
"The Nutty Professor"
"Men At Work"
"The Addams Family"

Comedic MVP of the decade? My vote would go to Jim Carrey. Very consistent body of work and even had a great dramatic flick with The Truman Show.
