Hey LG, hope all is well.

I'm covering the Lakers for Bleacher Report this season, but that doesn't start til training camp - so here's my breakdown of where the Lakers stand after signing Yi, Black and Ingram.

The Yi contract is particularly interesting - and potentially valuable as a trade chip:

Cheers,

Eric

Thanks for your cap breakdowns. Really explains a lot of stuff for us.

I'll have to admit to one thing. Been using Bobby Marks/WOJ/Vertical breakdowns of cap stuff (mostly b/c for some reason Yahoo isn't blocked as a sportspage at work).

I'm kidding in that Bobby is a friend and does a great job - obviously I prefer people use my site as a reference, but all good

Great article! Do you know if the saved money (e.g. $11M for the Kings in that scenario) stacks with luxury tax?

Also,

Quote:
The earliest Yi’s final $2.3 million bonus can kick in is on Feb. 24, when the Lakers visit the Oklahoma City Thunder.

That doesn’t look coincidental.

Is it really not coincidental? I'm not even sure what's being implied here... that they might try to trade for Westbrook, and they want his first game as a Laker to be against OKC? That seems a bit of a stretch.

At home I do. Just not at work.

Good luck with the new gig.

And be nice to my boy DLO. (I kid...I kid...)

(and please sneak high calorie stuff to Ingram).

Hey Emplay good to see you posting on LG. I miss your annual articles.

Any idea were you stand on the Lakers I know you have them as 8-15, but can the kids growing faster and the vets contributing change that presumption?

Lakers could do something this year if it all clicks - and if other teams get injuries or stink it up - I look forward to covering the Lakers this season, I like this stage, a bunch of young, developing talents with a few vets around - but to get to 45 wins? A stretch to me.

We do need another piece to the puzzle, if the team is competitve up until the trade season (December) it wouldn't be shocking to see Mitch get us the final piece to the puzzle like the FO did with Pau in 08'.

I feel like the Lakers are further away than just a "final piece" - but they have some nice, young players with tremendous potential

Yeah. But that final piece might bring us a better chance to make the playoffs. then championship talk is more realistic once young guys get experience.

It should be easier this season to post my Bleacher Report articles as they'll be more of a weekly thing than a multi-daily like I had with LAT

Any chance ESPN invites you to be a NBA analyst? Would you consider it that would be really cool.
