Contrary to popular opinion, volume shooting and dishing aren't mutually exclusive (See AI and the Sixers). But you only get the dime when someone makes a shot

Yeah, he probably could have had 12-15 assists, but he was forcing some shots in the 4th quarter. But when the game seemed to be slipping away early in the 3rd quarter, he did a good job of carrying the team on his back and kept it close.

I think in the 1st half he was playing more as a facilitator and wasn't really looking for his own shot. He made some really nice passes under the basket, especially that behind the back to Kwame.

Some say his is only an average passer. That is only true because he has average shooters.

He is the best all around player in the game. Period.

If the Lakers make at least 45% of their shots, Kobe could get 14 a night. Problem is, guys can't make open shots consistently.

Kobe is as good a passer as just about anyone in the league. The real problem, which I don't think is a real problem anyway, is that Kobe, moreso than anyone, is willing to say "screw it! I have to shoot for us to win!"

Phil Jackson commented on this in the book. He said "Kobe is a willing passer, but if he senses that his teammates are timid, Kobe will step into their spot and take on their load as well."

Kobe is just the ultimate competitor. Never shy to take the pressure and put it on his shoulders.

Gotta love KB8.

21 of those shots were in the 2nd half in 21 minutes of action.......But who's counting.....

The thing is he made 10 of them and got 24 points......So I say shoot away, and when overly harrassed, pass out of the pressure, make them pay for those doubles, just as he and the Lakers did.....

With Cook being a threat,Kobe will get that little extra space, now instead of constant doubles and triples along with traps galore,Kobe will only see doubles half the time....he can now pick and choose when to go into strike mode, when they double, make them pay, pass out of it,and when they are in single coverage,Kobe can do whatever his talented self wants.....

So let me get this straight, he had more points than assists?

Selfish.

I liked Kobe's approach last game, you could see in the first half he was really making a point of getting other people involved. This was most apparent to me when I kept getting irritated that he continued to pass up wide-open shots to pass it to Smush, but to Kobe's credit, eventually Smush began to hit those shots. It looked like it was a good strategy and one that Jordan tended to use a lot later in his career. I hope that opposing defenses allow for Kobe and the Lakers to continue this approach in the future.

The other side of the equation is that Kobe often in games shoots over double and triple teams rather than to pass to wide open men. Is that selfish? I don't know. I do know that the guys on the team have to earn Kobe's trust. Once they show that they can consistently contribute offensively, Kobe has no problem setting them up (see brian cook). Kobe trusted Sasha for a while, but that trust is deteriorating. The more these guys step up and show they are worthy to wear the PNG, then the more Kobe's game will evolve like Michael's.

I also wonder how many assists come from Lamar Odom feeding Kobe Bryant? Everyone talks about how lamar is such a great facilitator, but I'm pretty sure the bulk of his assists come from passing to kobe bryant.

And you think he should be passing to someone else? A bunch of people just stated that Kobe would get more assists if the others would make their shots. So is Odom wrong for going to the best player on the team?

On this site, apparently no matter what Odom does it's bad and the Lakers should trade him as a result.

Knowing BSPN, Kobe would be called selfish for getting too many assists.

You're misinterpreting what I'm saying. Odom get praised for getting others involved when most of his assists come from Kobe making shots. Kobe would also have tons of assists if he could pass to himself.

See? Even if Odom leads the team in assists, on this site it's still somehow an indication that he sucks. Lemme guess, Odom only leads the team in rebounds because the role players brick so many shots, right?
