I don't know about all their past QB's, but this guy looks like he has a heck of an arm.
Outside of Palmer, I don't think you could say that about Sanchez or Lienart.
Looks like he reads the field as well. |
USC QB's are mostly overrated in the NFL. I only watch the NFL closely in the past 20 years so Carson Palmer is a very good one. Rodney Peete was adequate. Matt Leinart very overrated, I never thought he had a strong arm. Matt Cassel right time at the right place. Mark Sanchez very overrated, he was average but was on a very good Jet defense team.
Sam Darnold is very promising. Great size, pocket presence, mobility, and strong arm plus intangibles. Very calm for such a young quarterback, I don't see him getting flustered. |

He threw the tying touchdown and just ran down the field like it was nothing. Got a lot of poise |

Good game, very fun to watch. I heard the line went up to USC -8.5 after being at -6.5. Lots of people putting money on USC. And losing. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

They scored 0 points in the 1st and 4th quarters...they showed heart in coming back when it looked like USC was running away from it but I think they let off the gas when they had a 2 TD lead and blew it. I know playing it safe by running the ball and running the clock down usually wins the game with such a huge lead but it also kills the momentum when your team is winning as well. |

I think its easy to say going to a particular school will not produce a quality QB, but there are also a ton of other factors determining whether a particular player will be successful in the NFL. Getting drafted by the right team and right situation also plays a huge part in player development not to mention how much effort does the individual want to go the extra mile to succeed. We have seen players from division I-AA schools that have gone on to Pro Bowl careers like Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Tony Romo to name a few. If the NFL scouts see that a player is good, it doesn't matter where they went to school at. Then theres the super rare athlete who never plays college football but makes it in the pros like Antonio Gates who has a Pro Bowl career. |

Did you see him on the last TD pass, he had the drag route open underneath and he ripped it into quadruple coverage for the TD . |
That was the kind of throw that Jameis Winston was making a couple years ago. There are maybe 10-15 QBs in the NFL who can make that throw. |
Good call on the Winston comparison. That went through my mind, too. I think Darnold has a chance to be a really good one. |

Great epic game, very glad USC won. I wonder if either Jackson or Juju will be back for their senior year. I'm also concerned we are graduating 3 linemen I think, will need a lot of help next year for Darnold. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions! |

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/01/07/pep-hamilton-may-quit-browns-join-jim-harbaugh-at-michigan/
Quote: | Pep Hamilton may quit Browns, join Jim Harbaugh at Michigan
As the Browns look for a new defensive coordinator, a change may be coming on their offensive coaching staff as well.
Browns associate head coach Pep Hamilton is considering leaving Cleveland to join Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff at Michigan, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. Hamilton was previously an assistant to Harbaugh at Stanford.
The Browns don’t actually have an offensive coordinator on their staff, as head coach Hue Jackson handles many of the duties usually handled by an offensive coordinator, but Hamilton is Cleveland’s highest-ranking offensive assistant.
These days, “amateur” college football pays its top coaches about as much as professional football does, so Michigan can surely make Hamilton a competitive offer financially. Michigan’s defensive coordinator just signed a five-year contract worth $1.4 million a year, and if Harbaugh is offering Hamilton that kind of contract, Hamilton may think he’d have more job security and make more money at Michigan than in Cleveland.
Michigan recently lost passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch to UCLA, so there’s an opening on Harbaugh’s staff. |

UCLA got a big commitment today...
UCLA received a verbal commitment from five-star 2017 CB Darnay Holmes.
One of the biggest commitments at the Army All-American Bowl, Holmes opted for the Bruins' hat over Ohio State, USC and Nebraska. The Calabasas, California, native seemed to be leaning toward the Buckeyes, but ultimately opted to stay in-state. All recruiting outlets of note view him as a high-upside prospect, with nobody higher on the 5-foot-11, 185-pounder than Scout.com, which slots him in at No. 9. Scout analyst Greg Biggins refers to Holmes as an "electric two-way performer," one who offers "explosive speed, very quick feet" and an affinity for playing in press coverage. He will likely play on the defensive side of the ball with the Bruins.

I just came here to post that, Holmes is one heck of an athlete. I never saw that Calabasas team, but it was loaded with talent. I did see him play a few times at Newbury Park, though. Both him and Matt Corral (USC recruit) were selected for the Army all star game. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

It is possible the Bama defense is going to be worn down eventually?
The Alabama offense is essentially trying to hit a home-run on a run or not lose the game right now. |

This game began three hours ago and there's still 6 minutes to go in the third quarter. Halftime was at least 30 minutes long. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

Watson is fortunate to be in one piece after that hit.
Clemson should be careful, I think they are in a good spot if they can avoid anymore turnovers. |

Game will probably end around 9:30PM Pacific Time....
Unlike the NFL where the clock keeps running unless theres a timeout or play run out of bounds, in college football the clock stops everytime theres a 1st down.
I remember the Rose Bowl game started at 2:00pm and ended around 6:30pm with all the pageantry so a 4.5 hour game is not all that unusual. |
