There is no hype and great expectations for Mozgov and Deng. There are lots of hype surrounding Randle. That is why Randle will be the biggest disappointment. I am not really impressed with this dude.

As long as people here realize that the players are who they are. If one disappoints, then that means the poster's expectations were off base, not that the player underachieved. So the real disappointment would be the poster's ability to evaluate players.

I voted for Zubac. I just don't think he's going to get a lot of minutes this season. We all expect big things after how well he played in summer league, but I think he'll be riding the pine.

In terms of players who will get minutes...Anthony Brown. We all want him to be that 3 and D wing we need so badly, but I don't think it will happen.

Hopefully I'm wrong in both cases.

If you're expecting any of the young players to average over 20 a game, prepare to be disappointed. If we're lucky enough to have 1 achieve it, great. If not, it's expected. Let's just win as many ball games as we can and enjoy this young team. Lots to look forward to this coming season. Can't wait for camp/season and hear what my fellow LG cats have to say. Been a slow off season especially coming off such an awesome summer league. October can't come soon enough.

Some seem to have unrealistic expectations of acceptable contributions for some of the players.

When those marks on any given night are not met I am sure there will be some hissy fits on how bad a player is, will always be and why did the FO sign him to such an outrageous contract or waste a draft pick on such a loser.

That is where my vote for most disappointing is cast.

I just voted for "other" with this very thing in mind.

IMO, the players on the Lakers with the highest expectations heaped on them:

1. DLO
2. Moz (the contract)
3. Randle
4. Deng (the contract)

(wide gap)

then the leftovers like JC (one of the more steady players), Ingram (not a lot of pressure on him this season), etc.

Pretty much. Ingram will get a pass for whatever reasons.

I think b/c he was the consensus #2 pick (unlike the posters who bring up Oak/Porky for DLO) and will likely play behind Deng and be brought up slowly.

That's amazing. DLO turned 20 in February; Ingram will still be 19 through the rest of the entire season next year. Assuming good health, that extends his prime window dramatically that he's so young and talented.

In some way, our speculation about seeing Ingram playing initially behind Deng contrasts with the talk thirty-plus years back among Laker fans about another pair of wings. The rookie James Worthy was not anticipated to be playing behind Silk Wilkes but it's how things developed. Wilkes was a more complete player at the time than Deng is today, though Worthy was also a more complete and matured player than is Ingram.

I personally think that a Deng/Ingram pairing - that is, playing together on the court at the same time - will represent this Laker roster's best possible forward pairing by season's end.

I'd prefer if he'd start but I just am trying to read the tea leaves. I do agree that Deng/Ingram probably represents our most well rounded forward duo.

Reading this thread is making me want to go visit my doctor for some Zoloft. Quick, someone make a "Which Laker will be the biggest surprise this season?" thread.

Nice to have 2 young prospects who's ceilings could be amazing. I'm hoping they both lead the charge in the new era.

Here's the crazy thought. Add 10 years and both are still in their primes. What?

Drool. Them coming up together, building up that chemistry and living up to the expectations? Very scary thought. Exciting times for Laker fans.

It'll be interesting to see whether the Lakers try to keep a core of young players together or they trade a few to bring in more established but older guys.

JC/Nance are slightly on the older at age 24/23 (soon to be 24 on 1/1 for Nance).

The betting man in me would say we are not keeping all the young core together long term. Odds are stacked against that happening. It would be nice to have every single one of our young guns on the team the next 6-8 years but in the big picture, I see maybe 2 or 3. Or, something magical happens. Highly doubtful.

Nope. Up next is the 'share pictures of your dead childhood pets' thread.

After that, we're gonna get REALLY depressing.

Randle is up for an extension after this season; likely heads into 2018 offseason a RFA. Pretty crazy we're getting close to that. JC just got paid.
