Since the mid 90's when they moved the 3 point line back out to its current distance. Despite having the best inside presence and the best guard in the game (arguably the 2 best players over that period), who were providing more open looks than any other team.
AND
We've had only 1 person who played more than 19 min./game who has shot .40% from 3 or better (Derek Fisher 2001-02 .413% 28 min.) for an entire season. Only a couple of other times have people even been close. |

The pick and roll effectiveness is all in the execution once you have talented offensive players to run it. As another poster said, everyone knew Stockton and Malone were going to run that play. It's just that Stockton and Malone were so good at it and so good at making adjustments to the basic play against opposing defenses that they were damn hard to stop. It took a first class defense to keep them out of the winner's circle back in 97 and 98...
That said, Cook is very suited for the triangle as a perimeter shooter and occasional post threat. If he wasn't so slow defensively, he could become an All-Star quality guy and Phil could afford to leave him out there for 35-40 minutes a game. |
