What are your feelings on retiring Pau's jersey? |
This is a no-brainer! The Spaniard deserves it. |

Like many Lakers fans, I'm a huge supporter of Pau Gasol. There's also a vocal segment more critical of the Spaniard - especially while he was with the team.
Considering Pau's productive years with LA, and his crucial role in adding 2 titles to our storied franchise, I think it's a no-brainer that his jersey be retired. And all that before factoring his inevitable entry into the HOF (with his international merits).
As we wait for the season, I felt it's a perfect time to do a quick survey to see where people stood on this topic. |

My avatar answers for me, it's a no-brainer; to put it simple: no Pau, no two-peat. IMHO, Pau should have been Finals MVP against that green team in 2010. _________________ .... |

No-brainer for me. Put him up there. Do those teams win any titles without him? I don't think so. Bynum couldn't stay healthy enough to be a reliable #2. Also the trade for Gasol saved the team in 2008. That didn't result in a title but it did result in a Finals appearance and provided extra motivation for revenge in 2010 (and also extra motivation for the 65 win season a year later).
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if Gasol had teamed up with Kobe when they were at least a couple of years younger. |

Pau gets in as soon as he's officially inducted into the Hall. |

This is not a "no-brainer."
Gasol has to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, which may take a few years since he is not the first ballot type, then he will get his jersey retired in the rafters. 19-9 are nice career numbers, but, not standing out above, say, Chris Bosh, who also averages 19-9. Chris Webber averaged 21-10, he still isn't in yet, and no one is crying "snub." |

If it was down to points and rebounds, maybe Jamaal (18-5) and Big Game James (18-6) would be waiting, too.
Consider Pau has some accomplishments more for a HOF induction than Webber: 2x NBA champion, 3x Eurobasket champion (2x MVP), World Champion + MVP, 6x All Star... even if he's not a 1st ballot (yet, I believe he will), eventually he'll be a HOFer.
An Bosh will be a 1st-ballot, no doubt about it. _________________ .... |

I would say so. If there was a reason why I wouldn't, it would be because his tenure wasn't that long.
But, because his contributions were so great, and, without him, we would not have those two rings, I think his relatively short tenure can be trumped. |

No. But they probably will, given that they even put Wilkes in there. |

If Yao got into the HOF on a mix of his NBA & international contributions, I feel good about Pau's chances since he had a better career in both. |

As it should be. There's a number of international players in the HoF who never played in the NBA. _________________ .... |

Pau is a first-ballot HOF. It's the BASKETBALL HOF not the NBA HOF. Pau will easily make it the first year he's eligible.
As for the OP this is a no-brainer. His arrival changed this franchise. If it wasn't for him Kobe would've gotten whooped by Boston twice instead of only once and Dwight would probably be a champion. |

Not an easy call, but I'd only say OK if you put Cooper's up there before Pau.
Pau - 2 titles, multiple All-Star games as Laker
Coop - 5 titles, DPOY. |

Hall of Fame honors stars for their international play as well and he's going to be inducted after retirement.
Lakers got to 16 thanks to #16's arrival. Looking forward to #16 in the Staples Center rafters. |

If Yao can make it, Pau can too.
Hall of Fame has an International Committee and Yao was a no-brainer choice for them this year. Had Yao come up on the North American Committee ballots, things would be different.

There aren't too many times where you can point to a single date as being a transformative event in a franchise's fortunes, but 2/1/08 is one of them. |

I've been critical of pau his last few years here but his jersey should be up in the rafters. It's a no brainier given his championship contributions. |

Yeah, there also arent many times where you hear about a new player coming, there is so much hype, in the first game the hype feels real, and you go from beibg a team where the franchise player was demanding to be traded, to the NBA Finals in one season. That is virtually all Pau there. Such a perfect complement to Kobe. |

What kind of question is this? Of Course Pau's Jersey will be retired. He was a key member of our last championship teams and a sure fire Hall of fame player.
The fact that are people voting "no" proves how unappreciated Pau was during his stint with the team. |
