heres my totally realistic off season plans.
Trade 1:
Clarkson for Russell Westbrook. The Thunder would do this because Clarkson is basically RW-Lite and he's like 4 years younger which gives them a longer window to be contenders.
Trade 2:
Julius Randle and Larry Nance for Draymond Green. The Warriors would do this because Randle is Green on the offensive end while Nance is green on the defensive end. They won't need max contracts so the Warriors can sign Curry/Durant/Klay while getting younger.
Trade 3:
DLO for James Harden. Can you imagine DLO playing for D'Antoni? Enough said
Trade 4:
Zubac+28 for PG3. He wants to be on the Lakers so lets make it happen.
Free Agents:
Convince Blake to sign with us because we're the more popular team in LA. nuff said.
Westbrook
Harden
Ingram
George
Griffin

The Clippers have little to trade for Melo and CP3 isn't leaving $200 mil. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Put this in the playoff thread by accident, so re-posting here...
Here's something to throw out there:
Lakers In: Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, Monta Ellis & Courtney Lee
Lakers Out: Loul Deng, Jordan Clarkson, Tariq Black, Corey Brewer, #3 Pick, #28 Pick, Denver's 2018 2nd round pick & Chicago's 2019 2nd Round Pick (+$20.6 Million)
Knicks In: Loul Deng, Tariq Black, #28 Pick, Denver's 2018 2nd round pick & Chicago's 2019 2nd Round Pick (-$11.6 Million)
Knicks Out: Carmelo Anthony & Courtney Lee
Pacers In: #3 Pick, Jordan Clarkson and Corey Brewer ($-9 Million)
Pacers Out: Paul George & Monta Ellis
-------------------------------------------------------------------
We'd still have about $6-$7 million to use to re-sign Ennis and another guard like Trey Burke -
PG: Russell / Ennis / Burke
SG: George / Ellis
SF: Ingram / Lee / Nwaba
PF: Anthony / Randle / Nance
C: Zubac / Mozgov _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

I wouldn't be opposed to this because we end up keeping our 4 best prospects and still make our team 10 times better, probably my favorite trade posted on this forum. The greedy side of me would try to keep the pick and send out Randle or Zu (or even both if it means keeping the pick).
However, I don't think Randle and Anthony can be our starting front court though. I think we would start Mozgov in your scenario or Zu depending on his progress. _________________ “Life is too short. You have to keep it moving.” - Kobe |

We should donate money to LS if his scenario comes true. |

Dlo, Ingram, Randle, Zubac and the potential 3rd pick all need play time to growth. We either trade them or give them play time. To acquire a star player, we have to put some of them into the bench and cut their play time |

I would argue that LS's scenario would actually be better for the development of DLO and Ingram. DLO gets to be a point guard with PG/Melo on a sort of winning team while Ingram learns offense from Melo and defense from PG.
I don't think we win a ring with Melo but if DLO/Ingram turn into the players we hope they turn into, that can eventually be a contender in Paul George's 30s. _________________ “Life is too short. You have to keep it moving.” - Kobe |

And Melo is gone in two years anyway, with Randle/Ingram ready to step up in the front court. I think my trade gives us something in the short term AND the long term. I also think those trades are reasonable, assuming Phil is as desperate to trade Melo as he is (and that almost no team wants to trade for him). _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Whether we get the Draft Pick or not. Hes at the perfect age of his career where he can help this team grow and be a bridge to the future...
I could see Lakers having PG13 and Cp3 in there plans if all breaks right with the draft pick...
It just seems like Magic is a CP3 kind of guy he might be able to sell him on the Lakers. |
How are we going to create over $35 mil in cap space? |
You are right it wouldn't be easy...But I think if both players made it clear they would like to come to the Lakers we will figure out a way...
Clarkson, brewer and Black can easily be moved IMO...Its finding a team to take on Deng or Mozgov... |

For the record, we can't get both the #33 and the top 3. ORL gets our 2nd rounder if we keep our top 3. That return already feels pretty meager for NY-- especially turning the far more useful Lee into the costlier Deng- before you take away one of the picks. Hell, the pick would barely the cover the price of flipping Lee for Deng. I don't see Phil doing it unless he's depressed and hoping a Knicks fan will murder him.
(and Brewer wouldn't be in your depth chart)

You are looking at it the wrong way. Lee isn't for us, its for them. We are taking on salary for them. Also, Phil clearly wants to get rid of Melo and not like there are a lot of takers out there. Phil really just wants salary relief at this point, which this deal gives him plus draft picks to boot.
Because they want to rebuild, Lee is not an asset for New York at this point, but just another contract preventing them from rebuilding. Other than Melo and Noah, they don't have another contract they want to shed more. He's the next highest contract after Melo/Noah, and has three years left on his deal after this one. By putting him in the trade, we take a player with three years on his deal, while giving them an expiring contract in Black, but, even more important, give them tons of salary relief. That trade immediately takes $11 million off their cap for this summer, takes $19 million off their cap for the summer of 2018 and takes $12 million or $21 million off their cap for the summer of 2019 (depending on whether Melo opts out). Finally, we have another second round pick, just give them that one instead. It's a pretty solid deal for New York. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Can't see NY doing that in the slightest but overall, if that was the summer, I'd think it went well. Don't love Ju as starting 5 and would see him more of a 6th man but yeah you did a good job in keeping young players and getting guys to help win now and bring defense. Again, NY is the problem. |

It's funny that people think that NY would be the problem in that deal. I think they (Phil) jumps at it. The funny part is that it would be a trade with the Lakers. Do Phil and Jeanie make the call together? _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

I think the Pacers can get a better deal unless if our pick is the top pick overall. The Knicks will probably do it. |

Makes sense for the Knicks. They shed salary while also getting #28+ #33. That's better for them than anything the Clippers could offer, and Anthony would almost certainly wave his no trade clause. Even if the Pacers don't trade George to us, I could see LA doing a trade like this for Melo.
The lineup though has putrid defense in the frontcourt with Anthony/Randle. Randle would probably need to be thrown into the the George deal anyway. Zubac and Mozgov would then battle it out for the starting center position.
Great proposal. Makes sense for all sides. How about finishing it off with this: Ingram + Randle for Butler.
Russell
Butler
George
Anthony
Zubac/Mozgov
That team might give GSW a little trouble. I wouln't trade Ingram for Butler though tbh. Sticking with Ingram allows us to beat GS four years from now as Ingram/Russell hit their prime with George at the tail end of his prime, and with Melo still being a dangerous stretch 4 scorer.

Rivers and Crawford and maybe someone like Brice Johnson is probably the best that the Knicks can do. Melo can literally pick his destination, or he can just stay in NY. And after what Phil has said publicly, they cannot let him come back to that team. They really need to just move on, and since Phil has done nothing but badmouth him for 2 years, they aren't going to get a whole lot for him. And with Melo and his wife divorcing--she was the one who really wanted to be in NY more than he did, though I'm sure he also liked it there--this just feels like the right time.
If both parties want it to happen, I think it's going to happen. Add in the fact that CP3 and Melo are tight and that they've always wanted to play with each other, and that the Clippers basically have limited ways to add players, and I just think it makes sense. |
