Bulls reportedly made an offer to the Lakers of Jimmy Butler & 2nd round pick for Luol Deng, D'Angelo Russell, and the 28th pick

Only way that is legit is Chicago is dumb enough to actually place any positive value to Deng. Everyone else would see Deng purely as negative and therefore would need additional assets to offset. But as a former bull perhaps they see he brings more to the table than basketball skills. Similar to how we resigned vlade after we traded Shaq. But the difference there is we weren't paying vlade to put up shaq numbers.

So if they assign any positive value to Deng this makes sense. Otherwise this is a fake article

that would have to get Paxon fired if he did that deal

The Lakers didn't bring Magic and Pelinka to voice patience.

Yet that is exactly what they are doing.

I'm confidence that the new regime will find a way to trade them, they seem to have made it clear that by cleaning house with the FO and staff.

They were able to easily make changes in the FO & operations staff because the CBA doesn't have any bearing on that side of the basketball business.

Lol very smart to bring up the CBA even though my point was that the new regime wants there own brand.

The point that you are missing is that making rapid changes on the side of the business that isn't governed by the CBA is quite straightforward.

Redoing the roster in a meaningful way is much more complicated and takes longer to do because of the CBA.

You can still make moves as long as it's limited to a certain cap.

In addition to being compliant with the CBA, coordination and cooperation with other teams is often needed.

There are other teams out there with the same aspirations. Even though you keep hoping they will find shortcuts, it isn't as easy as you are suggesting.

And no one said it was. which is why they have bought a cap guru to be the GM.

It's ok. Per the NBA rulebook, as long as Magic does this every time he says anything, he's covered.

He didn't mention names, teams, etc...since he's being extremely
vague, don't know if they can, or not, fine him....

Agree epak, I think Magic would rather just sign PG than to give up assets to get him.

Guys, what would we need to do in order to have enough cap space for both PG and Cousins in 2018, please?

Would stretching Deng and Mozgov be enough?

Chris Bosh a free agent option

I doubt they go after him, but if they do, it would most likely be a 1 year deal leaving the 2018 plan in place. Don't worry, they aren't going to kill their 2018 plan for a guy on the verge of retirement.

As to how much we will change the roster I don't know more than anybody else. I think they are going to take a middle path. The first shoe to drop is the Lakers view on Paul George; I don't think they want to give key assets away, so we are going to either wait until 2018 to sign him free and clear or offer them a favorable package that doesn't involve our key assets.

1. Let expiring contracts or player options go, so bye-bye Nick Young, MWP, Robinson likely, Ennis maybe. Nawba hopefully stays too.

2. Trade favorable contracts like Brewer and Black, especially if a trading partner can be found for Deng or possibly Mozgov, although I think Mozgov stays this year unless they traded for someone like Brook Lopez.

3. Consider trades and moving Clarkson, and to a lesser extent Randle, Nance, and Russell or Zubac although I think we would need a bigger incentive to move any of these guys. #28 pick and second rounder could be up for grabs in any larger deal.

4. Hold on to second pick and draft Lonzo Ball.

5. Magic mentioned BI is probably the only untouchable. I think the front office wants to hold on to Russell as SG and Zubac as a center of the future. What they decide to do between Deng and Randle needs to get cleared up this year. But I think the plan is to hold on to the young core, hold on to the second pick, try to update the back end of the roster, and hope PG13 still wants to come here in 2018. No tanking next year and try to get at least to the mid-30's on the win total.

Yeah that's the most likely route, giving 1 year deals to vets who can make a difference.
