Celtics are sending Thomas, Crowder, Ante Zizic and Brooklyn's 2018 first-round pick for Kyrie Irving, league sources tell The Vertical.

Not bad. Boston didn't want to pay IT max money. And Kyrie is in the books for 2 + 1PO more years for cheap.

Wow, Cleveland gets the 2018 Nets pick unprotected?

If they want to have any chance of keeping LeBron they may want trade that immediately for veteran help

Rare trade that I think is good for both sides. Cavs were kind of screwed and got an all-star plus a potential top 5 pick. Celtics become a better team right now. Cavs-Celtics games are going to be something.

The Celtics are a worse team in short term. Kyrie currently isn't as strong offensively as Thomas while being just as bad defensively and they lost their 3 and D wing.

I think it's more IT going from a clear, undisputed #1 to a clear #2. It'll be interesting to compare IT vs Kyrie's production after next season. I think Kyrie will try to average 30 this season.

Not sure why everyone thinks Boston lost in this trade.
Is IT a rental? What's he worth as a FA next year? Boston doesnt have to deal with that headache.

IT currently is arguably the better player, and in addition to that they added a couple of solid role players and a prime asset in the Nets 2018 pick. Even if it's just a rental this helps Cleveland in the short term and long term.

The Lakers certainly aren't contending for a championship this season.

Read a few pages of Boston fan reactions, they're mad. They liked the Nets pick more than Kyrie I guess.

Swapping Thomas for Irving makes sense, but the point of contention is whether they overpaid.

That is correct, but they are trying to compete now, so even if a title is unlikely they are still looking to get wins.

It's not like we'd be tanking and we'd still end up with a lottery pick, seems like a win/win to me.

I can understand the Celtics front office, they get Kyrie under contract so they have stability now. Thomas could've left in the offseason and they would've gotten little in return. Also they get playoff and Finals experience with Kyrie now. He wanted to carry a team without Lebron, now is his chance to show what he can do.

Kyrie and Jimmy Butler both had 2 years left on their deals. You could argue who is better, but they are in the same ballpark. Consider what the Cavs just got for Kyrie, and what the Bulls got for Jimmy. The Bulls got taken to the cleaners. For a new GM, Koby Altman really did well here.

Wow, I like this trade for the Celtics... Kyrie for couple years locked up, better than Thomas
No need to go thru the headache of convincing IT that he's not a max player
No need to cater to Crowder pouting with Hayward's arrival
Izic, don't know who that is
Nets pick... still worth it

Celtics are built to win now they could derail or make Lebron's trip to the Finals very hard.

Not a bad trade for CLE with the unprotected nets pick being included. Now, what are they going to do with that? Do they try to flip that to help LeBron stay in CLE? Risky business for CLE.
