So they can now say they got Wade in the Irving trade.

Cavs is his best chance for a ring. For legacy, he should return to Miami.

I wish LAL could trade for Wade and his expiring contract. Deng+ Randle+ #1. He would be a mentor to Ball and increase our chance of signing James too.

Celrticks will have a high-powered offense overall but Crowder and Bradley were arguably their two best defenders.
If they luck out and make it to the finals their defense will get exposed. I hope whoever they face from the west mops the floor with them.

After being snubbed by Riley? I doubt that. His kids are going to Florida because Wade doesn't where he's playing and he lived there for 12 years.

The Celts earned the right to lose to the Warriors. The Cavs will NEVER beat the Celts even if Wade goes there. The Celts won this trade, especially considering they are playing to win now. They made up for that stupid trade they made when they offed Bradley.

We'll only know who won that trade next year. If Nets' pick fall within Top-5 (Doncic, Bamba, Porter, Ayton, Bagley), it's a great deal for the Cavs, as those five players are outstanding prospects. But it's not impossible the Nets improve their performance and give the Cavs a pick outside the Top-5.

They lost Lopez, true, but Mozgov is still a serviceable C (nevermind his horrible contract), Russell might have a breakout year, Lin played only 36 games last year, Carroll and Crabbe are major addictions, LeVert and RHJ are getting better and Atkinson seems to be the real deal. In the weak East, they can improve a lot their record.

I think Kyrie is a much better player and locked for 3 years in a friendly contract. Ainge would have a big problem in his hands next year with Thomas hitting FA, as he would have to max out a player that's a liability in the playoffs.

All and all, considering the Cavs were against the wall, they pulled a very good deal. For the Celtics, it's an improvement, as long as they don't regret missing on a franchise player next year.

What the heck that trade!

Is this the first time that two teams that were opponents in conference finals traded with each other?

I know we're all gonna deny it but there is no question now that Boston is the best team in the east, easy

I don't know if they won the trade. You have to step back and see the whole summer, they were in a position to get possibly:

1. draft Fultz
2. trade the Kyrie package for Jimmy Butler
3. Hayward (done)

So would you rather have Kyrie/Tatum or Fultz/Butler?

They could potentially have both Kyrie and Butler had they packaged the Fultz pick with Bradely.

Is either duo a bad choice?

For me the trade tips to the Cavs because of the draft pick. No worse then top 3, high probability #1.

Agree. The Cavs will probably play the same level with Thomas instead of Kyrie. They also protect themselves for the future when Lebron leaves next season.

That's true. So many combinations.

I'm not that high on the Kyrie/Tatum haul over the other possible iterations.

I would posit that even if IT fails the physical, the Cavs do this deal. They get the financial flexibility (20m saved in luxury taxes this season) AND a likely top 7 pick in 2018 and Crowder (one of the best deals).

On the surface good trade for both teams.....only time will tell who the real winner is.

In the short run I think it favors Cleveland, assuming IT is healthy and his play is all star status, I suspect Cavs will knock of Boston in the ECF. Some of what they lose with Kyrie they make up for with IT, namely his scoring. They get a good rotation player and a future pick. So if Bron leaves they are in an ok spot with cap and a top pick, if he stays they can trade the pick if they want.

Boston still contends in the short run, but take a slight step back to take a huge step forward in a couple of years. I mainly see this happening because of they've significantly changed the core of their team and the players they are going to rely on to lead that team, I just think it's natural for that to take a year for things to smooth out. They'll still be one of the top teams in the East but I think it's the following year they move to the Finals.

Who knows maybe by then we'll be on track to be in finals in that time the Celtics should be leading the east and then we can lock up once more.

I think Cavs get by Celts this year. Then Bron bails and Celts run East for a decade.

I see that too. Cavs make it this year because Lebron but Celtics (smh) have set themselves up very well for 2018-19 and forward. I don't trust the 76ers, Brooklyn has good management now but it will take them 2-3 seasons to really challenge Boston. Maybe Miami challenges too but Boston will be the clearly superior east team.

I really wanted us to sign IT when we were punting cap space in 2014.
He really wanted to be here and wear P&G. Only cost 7 mill a year too.
Seeing what Boston did with him is frustrating. They used him to attract other all star free agents (Horford, Hayward). Then they flipped him for a better PG.
Perfectly executed. And that's tough for me to admit. Cause I hate Boston. Buck Foston.

According to Marc J. Spears, the Cleveland Cavaliers' GM called the Golden State Warriors about Kyrie Irving for Klay Thompson. 👀
The were "uninterested."
