Russell Westbrook and Paul George played an immense part in getting Anthony to waive no-trade for OKC, league sources tell ESPN.

So PG definitely told Melo that he was staying after this year. Why would melo agree to come if PG didn’t say that

I think this idea Melo can't fit is interesting. People seem to forget, Melo played his best with Team USA at the 4.

It's going to be hard to transition 3 guys who are used to being #1 options, but it can be done. All these guys have enough experience and I think they will put egos aside this year.

Also very interesting to watch OKC vs. CLE approach to their franchise stars pending free agency this offseason.

We'll see how this trio will Work. Depending on playoff matchup, their best case is WCF.

Just cause that's what you think doesn't mean that's the scenario.

There is a good chance that this OKC team will only last for 1 year.

PG told Melo he'll put in a good word for him for the vet min when he joins the Lakers next season.

If OKC has their own big 3 I don't see any of them leaving for the Lakers.....unless they have a disastrous season.

I think it is more likely than not that Melo asked him what his plans were. Now, whether he does what he likely said is a different story.

There is not a good chance this OKC team will only last 1 year jsut because thats what you hope. It will all depend on how they play.

They have nothing to offer, the only contract they use can is Kanters and trading for him is suicidal for a team like NY who are trying to rebuild with young players.

Explain how trading for Kanter is suicidal for NYK when their only other options are the Cavs & Rockets.

Kanter, McDermott and Feruguson seems like a pretty good deal for NYK compared to the other offers on the table.

Called it.

Keep in mind that:

WB is going into a season while potentially not 100% healthy
then you have Melo who people have already said isn't a winner..

OKC ain't gonna do crap, we are gonna get PG13.

Carmelo has an opt-out after this year (all 3 of them can leave after this season), so I don't think that's a correct conclusion. Carmelo didn't want to go to OKC as much as he just wanted out of NY judging by how he spent the whole off-season trying to get traded to Houston. I think this is a 1 year trial and they'll see how it goes, nobody is making any commitments.

And once OKC commits to paying PG expect a Westbrook signing. I had assumed he was holding out to see if they are committed to winning.

Obviously, PG and RW wants to compete this year. But Melo is old and this won't change much if our two max plan turns out to be better than OKC situation.

Absolutely hate those small market teams and teams lack of traditions like okc, houston, Cleveland, Minnesota, even golden state (remember they were the dormant in the pacific division for decades before the recent rise). All the good players are heading to these teams for what? The league will be like AAA minor league baseball if lakers, knicks, Boston, bulls all bolt and form their own league and take their generation of fans (real fans not bandwagoners for one hit wonders) with them. The league should be helping the marquee teams get back to where they belong, not making rules to handicap them.

Melo is the worst out of the 3 players they have now. But nevertheless they pretty much have reassembled pretty quickly after Durant left. What a turn of events for the Thunder over the offseason.

I'd probably agree, although I doubt Carmelo is opting out. NOBODY is going to give him anywhere near what he's set to make next year. To me, this is more about Carmelo wanting out of New York at all costs, and if Houston wasn't an option than he was going to have to expand his list.

Because the players know they bring value to the teams and not vice versa. Its a superstar driven league. Gone are the days where the big market teams could snap their fingers and all the best players will go to that team. Pretty much the last couple of CBA's changed that.

It remains to be seeing if that's enough. We made it the NBA finals in 2004 but that superteam only lasted one season.

Getting real interesting and I'm feeling a bit worried.
Phil got Melo's trade value so bad. What a terrible trade for Knicks.

I'm a Melo fan but honestly, I don't think he can do what he used to. Phil brought down his trade value, sure, but Melo's play hasn't helped either. That being said, we are in for an excellent NBA season. SO many story lines and interesting situations to look out for. Cant wait for the season to start!
