Because they acted before Westbrook signed an extension.

Very few max free agents available that the lakers will have interest in next summer.
Blake and Ibaka are probably it.

Price of being hasty.

I think his 8m cap hit remains even though he's gone.

then whats the point of having non guarantee contract? i think his salary goes out with him

Salary was non-fully guaranteed.

Cap hit remains.

Nope - contract comes off the books.

Like was said - that's the entire point of the non-guaranteed contract.

i doubt that. not sure though

We would be under the cap if his deal didn't count.

If we were under the cap we could make claims on waived players.

We are not on the top of the list so...yeah, it's likely counting as a cap hit.

We are currently under the cap after cutting Yi and Brown.

I would add Chris Paul to the list of free agents the Lakers would be pursuing....

I doubt that, but even more so - I doubt it would matter whether they persue him or not.
If the Clippers blow it up, he probably goes to play with Melo in NY.

Don't see the lakers offering max deals to anyone over 30 this offseason (actually my cut off age would be even lower than that...).
That would be a huge mistake.

Who is the best player we signed in Free Agency the last 3 offseasons ('14, '15, '16)?

Deng? Mozgov? Lou? Clarkson? Kobe?

JC doesn't count. Depressing.

No, only if he was on the opening day roster. Lakers now under the cap.

Yahoo is wrong.
We're further than that under the cap.
Always use Emplay's page.

Eric has us at $91,652,217 guaranteed with Brown and without Yi's guarantee or the salaries of Artest and Robinson.

Well, if you add in Robinson and MWP, you get to 93.6 and change, or just under half a mil below the cap.

are there any advantages to being under the cap by this small amount?

Not that I can think of off hand. It isn't enough to be able to claim a waived player, nor enough to matter in trades.

Clarkson will have the biggest impact especially long term.

Still kinda wish we had Lance Stephenson. Not gonna lie.

From Marc Stein's twitter:

Quote:
The Pelicans just announced that they've waived Alonzo Gee and kept Lance Stephenson, even though Gee is owed a full $1.2 million.

Lance Stephenson came to Pelicans camp with only $100,000 of his minimum salary guaranteed but the Pels decided to keep him over Gee anyway.

When you're beating the ghost of Alonzo Gee for the last roster cut, and it's a tough call, well, probably not worth the nostalgic love.
