I was hoping he'd be back as an AC but glad he's still with the team even if it's just as part of the practice squad. If anyone can improve these young guys' one-on-one defense and ability to play through contact, I believe MWP can. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

Yeah, I agree. This is clearly not an on-court type of signing, it's really an AC signing disguised as a roster signing.
I'm good with it. A hard-nosed, defensive-minded vet that won't care if he's getting playing time or shots? Sounds good to me. |

Yeah I really dont have a problem with this....he will be a end of the bench guy that will be used to show young guys how to play D and give high energy |

Excited to see if he can produce efficiency with a real system and better players but if he's just here to mentor then I'm okay wit it. |

The main thing I recall MWP teaching the youngsters is what it means to play hard all the time. |

LA is short on vets and Ron can continue to teach the young guys. Highly unlikely he makes the roster but it facilitates scratching the itch of trying to play with continuity in a switch to player dev after training camp. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

it's great simply because Nick Young isn't the biggest personality in the locker room / on the roster. _________________ KOBE!!! |

Does he make the 15 man roster?
Initially I was like most of you and thinking "not a chance" but I am wondering if there is a possibility. On a limited 3rd SF end of the bench capacity, but on the team.
Looking at the 20 man camp roster it could come down to 2 spots between Yi, MWP, Robinson and Young.
Can or should MWP earn the spot over Young and Robinson? I'm getting swayed by some recent articles that he might. |

I do not mind this signing at all. Do you guys remember he took a pay cut to sign with us in 2009 off season? He's just getting what is owed to him. He helped contribute to a championship and now is helping the young guys. Lakers take care of their players. He made the biggest shot in game 7, and was the main factor in that championship game. He can play for us next season as the 15th man, for all I care.
It's all about the rings, and Metta aka Ron won Kobe and all of us that ring. |

Metta World Peace Hoping To Play Three More Years
Quote: | Metta World Peace is hoping to play professional basketball for 20 seasons, Mark Medina of The Orange County Register writes. “I want to finish off strong,” World Peace said. “It’s not about what it will mean to me. It’s about, ‘Can I get there?’”
World Peace faces stiff competition to make the Lakers’ opening night roster, but the veteran isn’t worried about his status on the team. “My concern is having a good time. There’s nothing to overcome,” World Peace said. “I’m a hell of a basketball player. That’s the hard part, becoming a good basketball player. Once you do that, you don’t have to worry about nothing else.” |
Quote: | “I used to be a bad teammate,” World Peace lamented. |

Not if you include the camp invites and AB (for the most part). But he is way done and there is no need to even have him in camp given we paid big bucks for Deng, who does the same. _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team ! |

Actually I want him on TV doing commentary. There would be so many quotables. _________________ LeBron, AD, & _________. Stay tuned.

With MWP being on a training camp contract, I'm sure Luke just gave him a fair opportunity to show what he could do on the court. It's clear MWP isn't the same player he used to be, and that's not a knock on Metta given his age and experience -- he brings a lot more to the table off the court as a veteran of the game. He has much more utility coaching/mentoring the younger guys than being out there on the floor. Don't see why they can't give him a player development position. He's one of the best defenders to ever play the game. |
