Thanks emplay.
Even if Luke knew we had a chance this year do you honestly think he would give out his playbook? |

Good stuff. How is training camp going in your opinion? How is the vibe different from last year?
Congrats on your new gig as well... |

Lakers are 0-0,the players love the new staff and vibe.
This is still a young team with a lot to prove, how will they be in a month with few wins? If... _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

What if they are 10-2 in the first 12 games. |

Mitch isnt the kind of person that would be unhappy with 17 wins but be okay with 25 wins, that's like choosing between a disaster and a bad season.
My sense is that Mitch wants 40 wins as the absolute best case scenario. |

Well done emplay, richer format than the shorter texts from the Times. |

Thanks guys - happy to be back at the Lakers coverage.

If Young stays, I think Yi and Robinson will compete for the 15th spot. Playing 71 games last year, TRob is a tier above the other camp invites. |

I would say there's a very, very strong chance that Yi sticks, period, Lakers signed him as a trade asset - they're not likely to give that up, no way _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

Yeah, I understand the rationale. For somebody with Yi's resume, he would not come without a wink-wink promise. But still, only 25k of his deal is guaranteed and Mitch does say "he’s going to have to earn his way on this team also."
Mitch also says they worked out Yi Jianlian individually several times over the past couple years. It's a bit odd for me because when it comes to a veteran like Yi, teams usually have a good grasp after workouts.
Maybe they just signed TRob to stir competition. He is the only one capable of battling for a spot. Everyone else are just fillers imo.
BTW, do you know the team's thinking regarding Young? Are they looking for compensation in return, or are they willing to throw in sweeteners? Teams need to see Young playing before having any interest in him. Other than the young core, I want to see Young's performance in preseason. |

I'm still confused about why TRob signed here. Seems a bit overqualified given the Lakers roster crunch, numbers wise.
Best of luck to you Emplay on the new gig! _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I'm happy you are doing the Lakers coverage. I usually read your stuff in the L.A. Times, and I keep up with your stuff at Basketball Insiders.
Here's to hoping for a better year... |

An NBA team offered him a contract and the alternative was a non-NBA team. |

Sure, but I think he's a bit more overqualified than your average Travis Wear and Julienne Jacobs. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

T-Rob does not have a great rep. around the league - he's more likely to play overseas than stick but we'll see. He's nowhere near the 6-10 he's listed at - more like 6-7 or 6-8 - and not long, like Ed Davis.
He's strong and athletic, but can't shoot - and to his own word is my article, has not been stable off the court.
Robinson on a non-guaranteed summer contract is about right, unfortunately - hopefully for him, he can turn his career around and stick in the NBA - kind of like Shawne Williams (though Shawne had worse issues off the court - and he was a great guy).
I liked my conversation with T-Rob, it was brief, but he was pretty open. _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

Also, thanks folks for the kind words
(and as far as Swaggy, Lakers want him out but they're not willing to hurt themselves to do so - so all TBD, depending on offers - there is zero market for Young) _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

Thanks for this tidbit. Something didn't line up given his high draft status and relative production when he actually played. This makes more sense now. Almost a last chance opportunity b/f he goes overseas. I heard he had a really tough childhood. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Are they unwilling to waive him? |

Thank you for sharing your account. That's the kind of report we need-- first hand and yet objective.
Playing overseas might help TRob; he needs to extend his game.
