Hope he's found some semblance of peace and stability over there. Maybe Estonia is the first step to revitalizing his NBA career. I hope he's found a mentor/friend who can steer him in the right direction. |

That was my boy...but not sure how many "mentors" he can find in Estonia.
Hopefully he's not being too stoned in Estonia. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

And find more overseas?
There isn't a place on the world Upshaw could go play basketball that drugs won't be available. If he still has that problem, it will remain his problem no matter where he goes. |

Tallinn is one of the most beautiful cities in the world... and the women are absolutely gorgeous.
Not a bad place to go tbh. _________________ "He may say it's not you, it's him.... but it's really you." |

never personally been there, but anecdotal evidence suggests blonde hair, blue eyed beauties has been their #1 export for decades... |

this is true. but if he's able to surround himself with good association (people who aren't doing drugs)... most of the battle is won. |

this guy has had many "2nd chances." there are people that can be saved and then there are people that cannot be saved. unfortunately, odom and upshaw are cut from the same cloth _________________ Billions Billions Billions |

Yea... drug problems tend to stick to people for life, as our system does not address them correctly. From that aspect, I do fear the worst for Upshaw overseas, since he has no familial support there. It could end in a downward spiral for him if he isn't careful. He needs some real mentors over there to help him out.
Kind of think Upshaw was in the wrong place at the wrong time with the Lakers last year. Would have benefited extremely from Luke's tutelage. Coby Karl would also have been good for him in the d-league. He needed a coaching staff he could relate to. |

I dont even think that would have helped.
I read an interview he did right around the time he got busted. His passive aggressive feeling that it's never really "his fault " stuck out like a sore thumb.
People with that kind of mentality always say the right things but really don't associathethemselves as the problem.
For that reason, I think you was beyond needing a good coaching staff. |

I'm happy to take credit for breaking the news a bit earlier:
http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=179329
Can keep you updated.
In one of the first games he was the best scorer of the team, but it took him 15 shots to get 14 points.
His biggest challenge wil be the VTB League. Playing against the top russian clubs. If he lasts that long.
So far, luckily no local news about misbehavior. _________________ .

He needs to do two things, kick the drug problem and learn to play the game of basketball. The drugs are obvious, but he also was a poor player last year. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

I remember how disappointed I was when he was waived. I thought he'd make the cut for sure because of his potential. But once he got his D-League contract terminated, that made it indisputably clear that waiving him was the right move. Zubac is a much better fit. I doubt he'll be as good of a rim protector as a clean, dedicated Upshaw could be, but that's more than okay because his upside as an overall player is insanely superior, and it's not even close.
I wish people would stop with the jokes. If we wake up someday to a story of him dying from an overdose or something you'll just look like even more of a donkey than you already do for cracking insensitive jokes. Root for the guy's life to improve and for him to overcome his issues. _________________ “Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savoring God. Yeah, I don't even care about his basketball future (though I hope he can earn a good living). Just want him to have a drug addiction free life that is happy. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I got it from silver screen and roll, although you did break the news on LG first.
Are there highlights of his first games? Or do you just live in Estonia? |

I think he's gone the Smush Parker route....playing in niche pro leagues around the world, sadly never to be heard from again. |
