The Giants have had so much luck in the post-season, I'm glad to see it come back and bite them in the ass.

1908 was an even year too.

Now I can watch Pete Rose squirm on the post game.

With the way they've blown leads all season, fitting they lose in the 9th with a 3 run lead. Epic.

Not at all. It was a 3-1 series win by the team with the best record in the MLB.

That was the Cubs never giving up and doing what they had to do.

That was the Cubs winning. Not the Giants choking.

5-2 lead at home, in the 9th, that was a massive choke job.

Cubs dismantled them in the top of the 9th with their hitting, as did Maddon's subs. Chapman crushed them with his pitches in the bottom of the 9th.

That was all the Cubs getting (bleep) done by not giving top and closing it out.

Agree that the Giants were just overmatched all series long. Even yesterday, after the Giants came back to take a 5-3 lead, the Cubs answered right back. They kept answering and the way they put the Giants away today was no fluke. Bryant singled, Rizzo walked, Zobrist with a clutch double, and then two singles. The only lucky part of the inning was Heyward who my god is so atrocious I can't believe they are paying him so much - got to 2nd base on an error.

Still though, as a Giants hater - boy am I glad they went down the way they did. Up 5-2 at home to force a game 5 and you lose it sucks.

So glad that crap is over!

So sick of the everyone just assuming they'd win because it's 'an even year'

Thank you Cubs for finally putting that to bed

When Connor Gillaspie comes out and starts hitting 3 run dingers and game winning triples - you start believing even as a Dodgers fan. I really thought when Gillaspie took Chapman for a trip that this was their year How can you not?

^Seriously, it was another... not this (bleep) again. That so-called even-year team showed up yesterday and took charge today into the 9th against a team that has been known for unraveling at some point for more than a century. I'm just glad the (bleep) (bleeps) are eliminated. They've been on borrowed time since the last games of the regular season.

Bochy overmanaged the 9th.

Agreed. He should have at least let Moore come out and face the first batter - he had a 2 hitter going at that point.

No love lost for the Giants and their fans - but damn, that is a cruel way to lose. Esp. with Cueto and Bumgarner slated for Game 5.

Oh I agree, you start to believe that crap.

But I just hate how they assumed it was a given. Seems like the others teams buy into it as well.

Glad a team finally nutted up and took it to them as opposed to lying down yet again.

Bay Area: City of Chokers 2016

Dubs choked away a 3-1 lead.

Sharks were heavily favored to win the Stanley Cup choked to the Penguins

Giants choked away the division lead and a chance force a game 5

No matter how you slice it, when you're up 5-2 in the 9th, at home (or even away), it's a choke to lose that game.

it's like saying the blazers didn't choke in 2000 because we were the best team, and our roleplayers/shaq finally woke up in the 4th. yeah, but they still blew a 15 point 4th quarter lead. Choke.

to me, to choke a game away is when you're in a position at the end of the game where the probability to win that game is high (ex: being up 3 runs in the 9th, being up 15 in the 4th quarter) that if you still end up losing, then it's a choke job. Is it WORSE if you're favored to win the game to begin with? Yes, but either way to me, it's a choke.

Also the regular season record plays no part in the postseason other than who gets home field. The teams all start at 0-0. In the postseason its all about matchups. The Giants choked because they had a 3 run lead and only needed to get 3 outs. The Cubs backs were against the wall. When you consider in the playoffs games are often decided by 1 run, letting a team score 4 runs is huge choke job.
